I would've gotten the ryzen 5500 instead of the 13100f. its like $15 cheaper and has 6 cores and 12 threads. a quad core in 2023 as a brand new system is a huge NO for me and while you may not be on the latest gen, you still have plenty of upgrade room up to a 16 core 5950x which will still be more than enough in the future. If you got $500 exactly to spend then I'd say its worth saving up another $10-$20 if necessary for dual channel which is REALLY cheap these days, there a silicon power 16gb kit 3200mt/s for literally $30. $5 more than what Linus spent on that single 8gb stick, and you would end up spending even more upgrading to another stick later than buying both in one package. If you can't save up $5 more then maybe a pc shouldn't be your priority imo lol

I have this case (the purple one). Cable management using a non-modular psu is tricky, but doable. This case does come with mounting points for zip ties, which is good because you will use them all. You're going to want to get rid of the stock fans and replace them with anything really. The fans are quiet but are very low quality. The side panel window will scratch if you look at it too intently, so don't stare directly at it. The airflow is good. It's easy to clean.

exactly! had the white one and it impressed me for $25! Great airflow, and although it was tight, it was fairly easy to manage cables, even with a non mod psu like you mentioned. It will always have a place with me, even though it is no longer my favorite budget case. That award goes to the thermaltake versa h17. for $50 you get an incredible case. Psu shroud, plenty of cable room, plenty of drive space, great thermals, AND a full tempered glass panel! I'm just glad someone else enjoyed the diypc f2 though

I have a similar case for 3 years or so, called "Zalman Z1 Neo". It has 2 120mm front fans and one 120mm back fan, with front dust filter and bottom PSU filter. Great buy for about 40$, if you can get over the fact that the metal sheet is so thin, you could probably punch through it (don't do what Linus did pushing with his knees on the right side panel, you'd probably fall through). The case is exactly the same except the plastic front looks different. The rest is the same: front panel has one USB 3, two USB 2 and audio jack plugs, acrylic left side panel, bumped-out right panel for cable management, fans connect through molex (they're very quiet and didn't have any issue with them for almost 3 years of uptime). Case cooling is great, i'm happy with it and don't regret buying it over something pricier.
@azenyr
@azenyr Жыл бұрын
A lot of smaller brands do rebrands of cases like this. I had one for years called NOX Hummer MC, not the exact same but very similar. I loved it to be fair. Very simple and straightforward but with actually a lot of flexibility. Don't underestimate cheap cases. For the CPU power cable that he said there was no routing for it, there is, just like all cheap cases you are supposed to get it BEHIND the motherboard and have it come out of the big backplate hole behind the board. Yes you need to pass this cable before putting your motherboard in the case. But with some effort these cases can still get great cable management. My current case is the famous Corsair 5000D Airflow. 200€. Apart from the design and build quality, in terms of features to be honest I don't think it is much better than that NOX 30€ one. If you don't care about having a sleek high end looking case, just buy a 50-100€ case. That's the sweet spot for PC cases.
@draxrdax7321
@draxrdax7321 Жыл бұрын
@@azenyr Same for the Zalman one i have, it has a cut corner to the top left where you can pass the CPU power connector through from the back panel side, but you have to do it before you mount the motherboard, otherwise it won't fit through. I changed my PSU recently and had to take out the mobo to fit it in.

I could have done that with my Ryzen 3700. Only reason I changed was the fan size caused a tone that my hearing couldn't deal with. Would be interesting to see some builds at higher price points, like if you could swing $750 we'd swap these parts for these parts, or 1k and we'd add these parts. To show more areas where things could be tweaked and improved to match a higher budget if you can swing it.

Couple of months ago i got my first pc. Coming from an asus laptop that ran chrome os because windows 10 was too much, it's a blast. Here in Brazil, R$4500 ($900 usd) got me a ryzen 5 4500, an rx6600 non-xt, 16gb of dual channel 3200mhz ram with an a-320 gigabyte mobo, a 240gb m.2, a dodgy psu and a good looking case, filtered intakes and tempered glass pannels. For 1080p very high/ultra 60fps gaming? man, it's freaking awesome. The only thing that makes me sad is, posting this build on PCMR or other subs, north americans just can't understand that this is roughly 4 months of minimum wage here, so saying it sucks and it's a budget build... it really is sad for my reality. i could only wish i could get this parts reliably on 2nd hand markets, maybe spring for better parts but hey, i didn't choose to be born here :|

No Man's Sky only really has issues at Ultra.) Also struggles a bit with Minecraft running shaders, but that's because I have to run the game natively at 1440p since AMD Adrenaline is incompatible with Java Edition, so no upscaling.

Personally, I'd have gone with a Ryzen 5 5500 instead - this is basically the same price as the i3-13100F and gives very similar performance in gaming benchmarks. You could have saved around $30-40 on a A520M gaming motherboard then which still has DDR4 OC support, and it would have given you enough left over for an extra 8GB stick of RAM so you can run 16GB in dual channel mode 🙂

@@rustler08 I know it's an Intel build, but claiming that this is the best value new gaming build on a budget of $500 is a bit off the mark. Ryzen 5000 series can still be bought brand new at the moment, and that 8GB single channel memory is going to really kill performance compared to 16GB dual channel. And to top it off, the included AMD Wraith cooler is WAY better than what Intel include with their low end CPUs 🙂

IMO the true budget will be still an AMD APU system, but in this case I would prefer to up the CPU to i5 or went AMD and the ram to dual channel 16GB, and buy the Ali Express RX 6600M (has 90% performance of RX 6600 and 1 year warranty) which cost around $150-$170. For the case I can probably scrap one from my workplace or my friend, and in worst case I can go no case and put it on top of my motherboard box until next month.

I'm willing to bet a fair portion of games won't utilize the hyperthreading in that i3 properly for the 6 physical cores those games will want. I really think having 6 physical cores is a required bar to be met where enough games just won't run right without them. I'm also willing to bet that the per core performance in even a Ryzen 3000 series processor or 10th gen intel wouldn't be a bottleneck in-game at all in any budget build before the GPU. If you went with a budget Ryzen 5 4500, I think it would perform almost exactly the same as the intel build with the GPU being the determining factor. The only major difference would be that cross section of games that require six threads but don't like hyperthreading, and in those scenarios the old 6 core part will win out.

Yeah I wish he benchmarked newer titles. That i3 is going to struggle in any game today, and isn't going to age well going forward. 6 cores is indeed the minimum today, and your right, most games don't utilize hyper threading, and in some games turning off hyper threading can increase performance.
@Junebug89

That's actually a crazy good CPU for that price. Until fairly recently, I was using an i5 4690k. That chip is definitely a few years old, but it was also a top of the line i5 when it came out. This bottom of the range i3 has like 80% faster single core speed, the same number of cores but also hyperthreading, and it uses considerably less power. My old i5 could be overclocked of course, but it would still be well below in performance and it would be using even *more* power, plus you needed a Z series motherboard to take advantage of that. And that old i5 could run must games today without issue. It's really mind boggling what you can get from a low value CPUs nowadays. We've come a long way since slow, dual core i3s.

I'm more impressed with the budget mobile Ryzens, like the 5625U you can find in $450 office laptops. 15-25 W power consumption and 3x the performance of that i5 4690k. i3-13100F is an ok chip, but it can suck up to 89 W of power and that is not a huge improvement over 4690k

For someone who cant afford (like most others) the high end stuff, you always seem to build my pc. I was surprised with the intel build, but when you later mentioned the 5600X, that is exactly what I went for a few months ago. Keeping in mind that your last build was AMD, a 5600x was perfect for a gaming upgrade as 4 cores just isn't enough. The 1660 has always dominated but my 1060 6gb is doing just fine hitting over 70fps in most games and most people will be using a 60hz monitor (maybe even oc to 70) with obvious pull backs on quality, not playing on ulta by all means. However, getting a 1060 over a 1660 will ultimately give you a bit more cash for that nice CPU. The one problem I have with this video is the RAM, there is no way 8GB is enough. I found huge bottlenecks at 8GB playing alot of games.
