When you hook up the compressor with your piping to run it to different rooms make sure your low spots have a cap and chain valve on them so you can drain the condensation out of the lines. If your using compressed air on pc parts the last thing you want is a burst of water. Make sure to dump the water out on some sort of schedule as well. I know it might sound dumb but nobody ever drains them if they don't have a maintenance schedule. If you leave condensation in the compressors it can cause them to rot out from the inside as well.

FWIW Linus, an old legit Bridgeport is worth well more than a new Chineseium machine. The rigidity that it has makes for an incredibly competent machine. My surface grinder was made in the 50's, weighs 3500lbs and will grind parts flatter than any new machine that isn't ridiculously expensive. SERIOUSLY good machine tool picks by your boy here! Also the compressor's physical size is down to the tank capacity. What they recommended was more about the scfm at 90psi. Basically having a compressor that delivers more air than you need is always a good idea. Less stress on the compressor and it should lead to less moisture in the lines. Regardless a quality aftercooler is a good idea to cut down on condensation building up in the lines. Also the Mitutoyo test indicator is fantastic! I have the same one but mine is .0001 not .001 for a different application. You will end up with many, many more. Heads up, if you can find older Starrett metrology tools they are fantastic, but for new ones I would stick to Mitutoyo. Most new Starrett products are Chinese made and are not quite as good as their older USA made counterparts or Japanese Mitutoyo.

I'm almost sure that indicator is accurate to either five tenths or one tenths, I don't think mitutoyo makes indicators to the thousands. @@Revoku yep. My tool collection is full of tools that cost the same or less than my paying someone else to do it. It may only get used once in my lifetime but the money I didn't waste paying someone else to do the job is the money I used to buy the tool to do it myself. Many tools have saved me way more money that I didn't have to spend.

Good tools keep their value quite well. So if you are short on money you can just sell some stuff. It's not like it looses it's value overnight.

I think Linus doesn't quite grasp that manufacturing and machining equipment doesn't age like computer and electronics equipment. A 1950s lathe and mill will cut metal just as well as a newer one, provided that it's properly cared for and not abused.

@@bobsled3000 I mean, Alex has done reasonably well, given his circumstances and resources. Can't expect all engineers to be good and proper journeymen machinists and fabricators after all. We haven't seen how Alex handles himself in a proper shop, because LMG has only had a limited workshop. A workshop specifically tooled to build computers, plus a few miscellaneous power tools does not a proper fabricator shop make. You haven't even seen him weld ( and that buggy withstood a hell of an impact, so there must be something good about his welds). They needed a guy who was good with tech and machines, and reasonably good at fabricobbling stuff. Now the fabricobbling can be of much better grade, provided the operator does his part. Plus if he messes up, the machinists, fabricators, welders, and gunsmiths can all rib hjim in the comments section. It's a win-win.

Not beating on Alex, but I've never seen him as anything but DIY and poor choices. It was a shocker when Linus said he was. Engineers are problem solvers, you know when you ain't got the tool you make it, or know other ways. From a engineering background, when people talk about xyz you kinda know and when someone say or calls wrong, it stands out. I think most things can be built with a mill a lathe and manual press and a cutting bench and for clean finishes a tig. If your using "rods" you may be doing it all wrong, a tip is all you need, and a clean cut and good design ;) I predict that there are going to be changes soon...
