This is one of the best LTT videos I've watched in a while. Please do more of these, like going to a local shop somewhere, supporting a small business, and giving the finished product away to someone. The only thing I'd change would be to interview the person who builds the tech at the end of the video, and reveal everything them at the end. I think that would not only make them very happy, but it would also show us the passions of the people that run these shops. Very good video, thank you!
@pixymisa80877 ай бұрын

Interviewing the builder would mean that they mention who he is, and the name of the store... and then LTT would be kinda responsible for whatever they do with the new clients they get. It's almost like a "sponsored recomendation" but without the sponsor part, so it's not worth the risk.

I was born in Taiwan and have been to Guanghua Mall many times. Taiwan is a tech country, so lots of people, especially the younger generation, have pretty decent knowledge in computers. Besides, Guangha Mall is like one of the biggest tech mall in Taiwan, the competition there is crazy, people would literally argue with you and leave you bad feedback if the part is $100NTD ($3-4USD) more expensive than another shop. So you can hardly get ripped off there. And judging from the shop owner's reaction, it's very unlikely that he knows this channel. There are already tons of tech channels from Taiwan and China, and those are the channels the tech enthusiasts in Taiwan would usually go to first. About sending Line message at midnight - it's just how people are like in Taiwan. People in cities usually stay up pretty late because there are still lots of things you can do/place you can go in midnight. The shop owner might finished the work at 9pm, had a dinner with his gf at a restaurant, went to a night market, came back home and took a shower, then dropped you a message before go to sleep. If you want you can reply right away, or you can just leave the message unread and reply the next day. We wouldn't really consider dropping a Line message at 2am is rude, unless it's a phone call.

The messaging part is true. I am from a South East Asian country. To us, messaging you at night is to keep you updated and we do not think we are being rude. I live in Taiwan and have bought a number of PCs at Guanhua. My service in general always been good too. He said it will come with a one year warranty, but the components will likely have longer warranties if that is what they came with. Even better, they often go beyond what they need to. I had an MB problem on my 3.5 year old computer, leaving the MB out of warranty. I brought it into the service center and they verified the MB was dead. They contacted MSI for me and I was quoted $1000nt (~$30usd) to service it. Included in the $1000 was shipping to MSI and back to Guanhua. Three days later, they called me and said my computer was back and ready for pick up. When I got there, they hooked up my computer and ran some diagnostics. I can't be sure, but it looked like the MB was brand new, though I can't be sure about that. After the diagnostics on the MB, the tech (perfect English, used to live in Hawaii) said he felt it was a little slow to boot up, so he ran diagnostics on the drives. My main m.2 drive wasn't performing as well as it should be, so he suggested getting a warranty replacement on that. I said I would clone the drive first and do that later. At that point, he said that MSI was going to wave the $1000 fee, the shop wasn't going to charge me, and sent me on my way home. A few days later, I brought the m.2 drive back, they tested it, sent it to Kingston, and a few days later, called me to come in and pick up the new drive. All of this on a 3.5 year old computer, part of which was out of warranty. I love the service here in Taiwan. BTW, the shop you bought from probably wasn't quite as independent as you might have though. There are a handful of main shops that have outlets like the one you were at, but they are all part of a big company. I don't know all the names, but I know mine was part of the CoolPC group, and there is also one called CarBuy. The builds are all done at their service centers on Bade Road, within a few hundred meters of Guanhua. I would be shocked if your seller was any different. Probably being a part of a big organization is why they can get even kind of rare parts as quickly as they do. You didn't mention it, but unlike what a lot of people might expect, there is almost no haggling/price negotiation here. You might get a relatively tiny discount, or a few freebies from manufacturers thrown in, but the price is more or less the price. I am surprised though that they didn't ask you to pay 5% more because you paid with a credit card; that is pretty normal here. That is probably why they were hesitant to give you a receipt. I always pay cash (real cash, not debit, not cheque) and have always been given receipts. Also, for warranty, they typically put a sticker on each component showing the date of purchase. I would be surprised if yours don't. Interesting to see another Canadian's reaction to the experience in Taiwan.

@@kennethverana5885 It depends. Taiwan manufactures a lot of high end chips. TSMC, the largest foundry in the world, is based there and makes chips for AMD, NVIDIA, Apple, most phone manufacturers, etc. Lower end chips (controllers for example) might come from elsewhere though. Once that is done however, final board assembly (putting the chips on boards and soldering everything) or device assembly might be done elsewhere (like mainland China). For example, Apple's A16 chip is made by TSMC in Taiwan (most likely since they have a few fabs in other countries, including China) but the iPhone is assembled in mainland China and India. Additionally, a number of significant tech companies are also Taiwanese. These include ASUS, Acer, MSI, ASRock, G.Skill, Gigabyte, Lian Li, etc. for consumer oriented companies or Microtek, Realtek and TSMC for the chip designers and manufacturers.

The fact that he was so humble enough to say "Yes, it's very lucky for me" when meeting someone he follows, makes it SO MUCH more better that he got it. Best part of the video in my opinion. Congrats!

One of the best videos ever and I've been watching Linus a long time. The kid that ended up with the PC was not only a fan but so grateful for it and I'm sure he really could of used it as well. Amazing.

That boy in the end, his genuine happiness for simply meeting Linus was awesome. He'd probably treasure those 2 memory sticks that were removed as a gift, but instead got a one heck of a PC. Well deserved if you ask me!

the two sticks were removed in order to find the matching pair, all the sticks were put back in once the pairs were match up properly on the mobo.

Aweee what a nice kid to give the PC away to. Couldn't have picked a better person. Seems like a humble kid, and he def would put that PC to good use. Good Job Linus!

Man, I really felt happiness and joy when the boy recognized you and said it was the best day of his life even though he hadn't won anything (yet). It was really sweet, and I can imagine how nervous he was (and this is really hard for people who don't speak English as their first language, because suddenly you "forget everything" because of the nervousness). His reaction was genuine, and it was much better than many videos where people don't even express their gratitude. Please make more videos like this, it was one of the best I've seen lately. Cheers from Brazil!
