Gaming on linux will be the catalyst to weather or not linux truly becomes mainstream and adopted by the general public (besides OEMs prepackaging linux on their hardware). Hopefully gaming on linux becomes more streamlined like on windows, but i have faith since it has become much more simpler in the last 5-10 years, spending hours trying to fix a problem on wine was horrible.

Compared to windows other usages, gaming is a niche. Corporations use windows for: active directory, old programs that are out of support, office 365, printing/scanning. Regular people use windows for: browsing the internet, saving/editing pictures, torrenting, watching movies, chatting, and playing games. The only 1 to 1 equivalent of these to linux is the internet browsing, everything else either requires a substitution, or knowledge in possible alternatives, for things like drivers or active directory, no alternative. Even if gaming was 100% compatible, this does not mean that users are willing to give up on their printers for example. And even if they were willing to do it, then they would face the wall of computer knowledge that they need to operate linux. On windows everything the user has to worry about is turning on the computer, the other things, such as mounting, cleaning, updating, scanning for viruses, self diagnosis on networks and computer, that is all handled by the OS itself.

Thanks guys, I hope gaming on Linux could stay in the community for some times, otherwise I'll have to find another topic on KZbin

@@user-dc9zo7ek5j But printing on Linux is fine, even better than on Windows. No problems nor alternatives needed for chatting. The most popular torrent softwares are almost certainly in your Software Center. Elementary students can do these things without the hacker-level knowledge people think is needed to use Linux. Also FREEIPA exists. Watching movies, assuming you really mean streaming apps, is the one thing that's too complicated for them.
