Fed up with Ubuntu choices, I switched from LinuxMint 21.2 to LMDE 6, and I'm happy with it. I prefer this rock solid snap free Debian base

Snap is disabled in other Mint releases too. Snap seems to be the biggest problem to me.

I did that on my wife's 10 year old PC for more than a year ago. Having installed Windows for decades, it felt like cheating, because everything just worked, no fight with with drivers and just ONE reboot. The install time was amazingly short and the internet, LAN printer and scanner worked immediately. A while ago I updated from 5 to 6 and was a bit worried, but it just worked again. Now I have some bad feelings, because I have not send any money to the guys who made this wonderful OS.

I'm glad it is finally out. I was hoping for pop!_os alpha 24.04 will be out by now but nevermind. I will install mint 22 to have fun until alpha comes along. I was a huge distro hopper but i settled with pop!_os and mint :) what can i say, I'm a poli linux user 😅

Thank you for easy to understand noob friendly introduction. Old newbie taking the cautious step after 40+ years of windows. Not a fan of terminals from commodore 64 days, all changed with Windows 1.0. Just tried Fedora on an old laptop, nearly gave up, but here I am giving Mint a try, which looks easier, more familiar. Main downside so far is no simple "accessibility" option to increase window close (X), max/min icons.

I just got my Beelink SER4 Mini PC back up and running. Two years after having used Windows 11 on my system, the OS finally succumbed to a permanent BSOD with every reboot and all subsequent reinstalls have completely stopped detecting the built-in Wi-Fi. I’ve ultimately given up on Windows 11 and switched to Linux Mint, which detected the Wi-Fi right out of the box. Fortunately, I’ve used Linux before. I’m using the primary 1TB NVMe SSD as the boot drive and the secondary 2TB SATA SSD as the Home directory partition.

I found Mint's wayland session though has made considerable progress. Not daily driver quality yet but its a good step in the right direction. I have a test laptop ready for the upgrade when it comes, but I did a clean install on an old one I don't use and so far, no problems on X11.

I've been partitioning my hard drive with Linux the old traditional method of create Swap Area, root / and then /home partition for years. That way when upgrading always have my home partition with documents etc at the ready. Since UEFI have had to create an EFI or boot partition 1st of at least 105MB. I absolutely loath flatpacks especially when multiple are installed and for example multiple large proprietary drivers and Desktop Environments are then updated becoming Gigabytes of data and not favourable due to my part of the world where data is expensive. These flatpack updates also quickly chew up the usually small root / partition of generally 40GB I create. I noticed many youtubers just go with the default install which doesn't seem to create these traditional partition schemes, what's best for modern systems?

I do wish there was a Linux Mint release for the Raspberry Pi. I have set mine up to run Debian with the Cinnamon desktop, themed with Mint themes. It works surprisingly well, even on a non overclocked Pi 4. Can't wait to try it on a Pi 5. I run the Debian version of official Linux Mint on my laptop. It is by far the slickest and best looking of all the Linux distros and very user friendly too.

I don't use use snap shot either. I use Rescuezilla to clone the drive. Linux may be different but I have had way to many bad experiences with restore points when I was in Windows. My sister-in-law once restored Windows 7 back to to a previous password she could not even remember. Almost anytime I save or change a file a use Double Commander file manager to compare directories on my backup SD card. My SD Card is a 256 gigabyte. I know you didn't ask me but this what I use and I have had great success. BTW I worked for about 9 hours to my sister-in-law back into Windows 7. Good Day.

LM is smooth as silk. Timeshift or snapshot mean well, however a prompt is needed when your storage is too low, as I've frozen my system when trying recoveries. Side note:if you live in a van, how do you manage a shipping address without bothering relatives for their address?

Your version will supported till 2027. I'm on Ubuntu based Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon and it will be supported till early 2027. So if you your PC is a "potato" you don't need to rush. But if you got newer hardaware uograde to Mint 22 may be a good thing

The stable ISOs went live last night in the mirrors. Just use your browser to your favourite Linux Mint mirror and whala. They are probably just working on the upgrade path and once they work out the kinks it along with the official announcement will go live.

When I tried Wayland in 21.3, I noticed that I could not actually install updates using Update Manager; only when I switched back to the default was I able to install updates. The screen that prompts for credentials just would never open under Wayland.

Wayland in my option is good but not 100% there as far as stability goes but it is on the right path and we all know technology changes even some of us are not so key into switching too fast as myself but as soon it becomes stable and Linux Mint applies to their distro I will jump into the boat but until then I will use X Org but yeah stability is very important to me therefore I don't mind waiting :)

YES Linux Mint has arrive but I will wait for a month until I install it bare metal on my Samsung SSD drive using a enclosure of USB 3.0 which is fast enough for me because I tend to wait until the bugs work themselves out and everything else in between but after that one month has pass you bet your money I will be installing Linux Mint 22 but still keep my old Linux Mint 21.2 just in case Linux Mint 22 is not meet my needs and expectations because having backup plans is a must have in my book anyways YES it it finally here and I for one cannot wait to start using and enjoying it to the fullest and start my personal and professional work one on it as I am now wiring a children book and doing illustrations for it etc so let hope Linux Mint 22 will make my work a pleasure experience :)

Wayland experimental .... Maybe the Fedora is a RedHat - money hungry - testing ground , but is running fine on Wayland(12 yrs old laptop with Intel i3 CPU / 8 GB RAM ) ( I use the KDE spin, because of Dolphin and just a simple settings option of ShutDown the pc , after a interval of .... minutes of mouse inactivity - why GNOME , and others DE not having this , is so hard ? - cone heads developers .... ) . I tried to install SUSE , which I understood also have Wayland , but ... their ISO ... do not start if Secure Boot( heard the news ? more than 200 models of PCs has the SecureBoot compromised ??? ) is enabled ?! ( another cone heads developers .... ) . And the mighty Mint ..... Wayland .... experimental .... embarrassing .....

Read the description. It is released, but the announcement is only made once the distro is populated into all the repos. You can get it from the link in the description and verify it is ready on the linux mint blog.

@SwitchedtoLinux it's been 2 days now since I skimmed videos saying 22 is out and the mint site still says 21.3 is the newest as of this writing... as far as what u just said ..video skim tldr lifers dunno what that means.. they lost u at video description, let alone doing yur own iso verification check.. min't 22 isnt out in my (most ppl's) book till they have an iso on the site and 21.3 gets the easy automated self update we were promised and yet still not a whisper from the update manager.. till all of this happens, mint 22 ain't out : ) I'm sure thats all right around the corner tho as yur sayin.
