I have no clue what I'm doing. However, I wanted to try out the i3 tiling Window Manager that I see a lot of the Linux professionals using.
In this video, I'm using the i3 WM Spin of Fedora, from here: fedoraproject....
Please like this video and subscribe to my channel. If you like these videos that I'm making, I'll continue to make more of them. Thanks for watching!

felt the same way you did when i first used a tiling window manager. took me maybe 1-2 weeks to get used to it and configure it for my needs and now i am currently running hyprland. amazing video! id suggest you try a few others and see what suits you

If you do stick with i3/sway (wayland i3 clone) I do highly recommend watching the screencasts on the main i3 website (under "screens" in the top right navigation), the first one goes a bit into the manual tiling aspect (splitting sections into further subsections either horizontally or vertically) Particularly what you missed which is fairly useful: mod+f (toggle window (real) fullscreen) mod+arrow keys (to switch between windows) (or jkl; which annoyingly is one off by default in i3 from the vim keybindings of hjkl for the directions, may be worth changing is the default on sway) mod+h (split next window horizontally from the current position, notably why it's not hjkl by default above, you may wish to change that in the config, sway defaults to mod+b, in order to have hjkl for directions) mod+v (split next window vertically from the current position) If you choose to use the mouse you can drag windows around (to different tiling positions with mod+left-click and resize them with mod+right-click) you can toggle floating with mod+shift+space. Good luck!

Great video!! About a year ago I tried a tilling window manager. I felt exactly the same way when trying it out. It was difficult to get into the swing of it, but after I forced myself to use it, I can't use anything else! The problem I have now is I can't use any other window managers unless they're tilling. I was really excited for Plasma 6. I installed it and logged into it once. The idea of having to manually put windows in different places just seems wasteful now!! I've tried a few, like i3, sway, awesome. They all have their good points but I've settled on hyprland now.

And if you want something like I3 but on wayland instead of X11 you can use Sway

I reccomend a dynamic tiling window manager not a manual one for a beginner

@@RandyHanleySome tilers can be much more pain to configure than others, so try multiple and see which one scratches your itch. I ended up keeping bspwm because it's simple enough and doesn't come with anything extra.

@@RandyHanley I would recommend something like bspwm. Its very very easy to use, I basically havent touched its config at all. Remember to install sxhkd alongside bspwm otherwise you wont have any keybinds and will be stuck at a black screen with no easy way out
