A memorable day was back in 1999 when me and three buddies went climbing up at Sitting Bear. We climbed to the top, not only was it one of the most fun and strenuous climbs I've ever done, but the view up there was awesome. Whoooooooo buddddddyyyy!!!

God bless yah Shug. This is one heck of an entertaining series. Didn't even turn the television on tonight. Great to see what hiking is like in North Carolina. You got more trees than we do in Northern California. I'll bet that's why there are so many hammock hangers there. We have plenty of Turkey Vultures though. I call 'em the California Air Force. Hope you get to backpack in my neck of the woods some day. We got some nice spots too!!

I just happen to be off today, so I caught this right away. 'Nuther great episode folks! Whipoorwill: I'd have to move, or not sleep. I might be able to tolerate Hickery's snoring. Bean Camp is greening up looks like. Fire ring showed up last winter. Thanks for the show!!

DARN KIDS - Get off my lawn! Yes,I just had my 56th this year - AND can still do a few miles (as long as it's downhill). . . I was worried there for a minute, thought I'd have to witness a cat-ass-trophy at the cathole. ANOTHER well-done series Shug. Thank you.

Got to love them Whippoorwills early in the morning and late in the evening. On a frosty morning, a few years back, I had one dive bomb me and struck me in the head at a ridge top adirondack campsitesite. Funny as heck.

How do you know what water to drink straight vs. water you have to boil? What Linville trail do you recommend on the first time out in the gorge?
@artistabigailmarie6 жыл бұрын
If you either find the head of the spring(one of the holes in the ground), or find the highest point of a stream, the water is safe to drink. I am pretty sure they were at the top of the mountain when they found that spring flowing over the side, which means no bad runoff from houses or dead things, etc. If you are ever downhill from a town/city or even a few houses, you will want to at least boil the water, but i recommend filtering as well. Make sure the water smells clean, or doesn't smell bad or "off". you can't boil out pollution from city/household chemicals and you need a special filter for that as well. running water is better than still water, and smaller, higher altitude water sources are better than lower, larger water sources(larger water sources have runoff from who knows where or what)

Gonna tell you something nasty now about flies that looks like the one you filmed in slowmo. In sweden we have a fly (Cephenemyia ulrichii) what it does is that it hovers in front of an animal, elk or moose and spits larvae into the animals nostrils, and to prevent to be sneezed out the larvae has hooks on its head and attaches in the nostrils. It has happened that the mistake human eyes for nostrils and spits the larvae into human eyes, it hurts like a mother*******... true story.
