Hey Wouter, big fan of yours! You cover tons of songs I can relate to and try to learn as well. Keep up the great work I just watched Lion King 2 again after a really long time and noticed that there is no proper tutorial for "We are one" If you could make a cover/tutorial of this song I'd be the happiest person alive. :) I believe it was the most awesome song in the movie and a piano version by you would mean the world.

IHadToChooseThis1 Yeah, mostly by ear and I use videos from Synthesia/have theoretical knowledge about chord structures etc. Rijksuniversiteit Groningen is a good university I hear, I’m probably going to get my master in Radboud Nijmegen some day :) You play piano as well I understand? Thanks a lot! I guess there is no general route to take. I learned to play by ear/with the help of Synthesia video's after years of practicing. Others learn by reading sheet music, depends on where your talent lies I suppose :)

Hey, i love this transcription and song ahh. I even downloaded the sheets! But i wanna point out that i think the notes are written two notes under the actual notes after the “he is not one of us” starts. I tried playing that part of the piece and everything sounded wrong, but then i compared the sheet music to the mariohere synthesia. Hope this helps anyone else whos having trouble with the sheets!

Thanks! Haha, Please understand that this isn't meant as discrimination against hippo's in general, just purely based on the musical quality of the transfer from low key notes in song to piano ^^ I wouldn't want any hippo-discrimination lawsuits.. :D

I am absolutely in love with this! 😍 I've been a bit self-taught on the piano for years, but I haven't made it very far in my abilities. I struggle to move my hands fast enough, and my hands aren't big enough to play one note and the other an octave up at the same time (is that a chord?). I also struggle with practicing in general -- I don't exactly have any resources besides my piano and youtube, as of rn... Do you have any advice for me??

Hey Kayla, thank you! I've been self-taught for the most part as well (had a few months of lessons in the beginning but that didn't work out). I can't really read notes well and play most things by ear. I've started out by learning the basic theory via KZbin and some books I had. Besides that I've practised a lot of chords/arpeggio's/scales and the structure behind them, after a while you will notice that you gain more speed. Then I tried out some relatively easy songs and tried to make them harder with the techniques I've just learned and that's how I've got better in improvising (almost all of my left hand is improvised). So I guess my 'basic' advice is; learn some beginners (perhaps advanced if you like it) theory, try it out on the piano slowly and go a little bit faster every time you try it. If you want to know how two of the same notes on another octave are called you should study some interval training (btw; it's called an octave, a chord is built up of multiple intervals). If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Hey Bob, it is an hybrid as I like to call it. It has accoustic qualities/soundboards but with digital advantages like recording options, headphones and all kinds of settings. So it's a bit of both, but technically a digital one. (It's a Roland LX-17).
