I can't WAIT to take my 5-year old to sonic. It's especially tragic, because The Lion King was the first movie I remember seeing in the movie theater, and I was 5-6. Let's not forget the strong marketing campaign surrounding not only the movie but the franchise itself. Of course, people are excited to see Shadow in the third movie, so why not make an entire year dedicated to the character with a video game containing his own gameplay content along with Sonic Generations? Not to mention the abundance of collaborations with various companies, content creators, and merchandising brands they have been doing throughout the entire year! It's probably some of the best marketing I've ever seen for a video game franchise!

I talked to kids about Sonic Movie 3 while I dressed up as both Sonic and Shadow for Halloween, and they got talking about it. I haven’t heard anything about Mufasa. With the stats on Google Trends, I tried different variations commonly used terms for Sonic 3 or Mufasa, and Sonic 3 still trends generally higher than Mufasa. KZbin shows the most interesting data, along with the views you discussed. The ratio of likes in Sonic is MUCH higher than Mufasa’s. Then Mufasa’s most recent trailer only has about 5 million views now, and they closed comments NOT EVEN 2 DAYS after release. But the most common comments I remember was James Earl Jones, questions about Mufasa’s plot, its resemblance of Transformers One, and even comments about Sonic 3. So yeah, I’m definitely excited to watch Sonic opening night!

I mean yeah, they are introducing Shadow the Hedgehog, a character as popular as Sonic himself. Not to mention, Sonic Adventure 2's story is considered one of the best in all of the series for a reason. As long as they are faithful to the source material (which it looks to be), and they don't hold back on some of the more emotional beats from SA2's story (which seems they are doing, just not as violent even if the scene of a 12 year old girl getting shot was not explicitly shown), and fans will be happy. There is a reason why the first two Sonic movies and the knuckles show, despite their flaws, are garnering so much attention and positivity from the audience. This series bought fan will with the redesigning of Sonic, and they have this movie on the way, with even a fourth movie in the works, with a post credit tease happening at the end of movie 3. Now, what does Mufasa the Lion King have? This is a story based in the photo-realistic version of the Lion King, but not with James Earl Jones voicing Mufasa. This is a movie that no one wanted, to a film, while yes, making a lot of money, is not considered good, and a soulless cash grab. The only reason why they are making this is because the lion King (2019) made well over $1 billion. Seriously, who wanted this movie at all? I haven't seen any hype for this, whereas Sonic 3 has a shitload of hype and excitement.

While Disney was doing better than last year with the success of Inside Out 2, Deadpool and Wolverine, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Alien Romulus, Mufasa will more than likely failed to have the same success of both the 1994 original animated classic and the 2019 remake even though I don’t like the 2019 remake of The Lion King. If it is lucky, and Mufasa tanks internationally it will make close what DM4 did which is just under a billion worldwide totall. But I have a feeling Mufasa will do well internationally and Sonic will end up closer to $250-300 million total. It is a shorter window for holiday movies than summer. I like how you pointed out they have tan and white lions and it involves race. They had delt with race (darker like Kovu and tan like Kiara) that with LK2 Simba's pride ages before. Also the white lion reminds me of Kimba the White Lion that was made in the 1950's. Yeah I know they got sued for it from TLK itself cause of scenes that were similar. *sigh* I am tired of all the remakes I really don't care about Mufasa, Snow White, nor Lilo and Stitch. In fact. I just checked and it's shown that that Sonic 3 trailer has 324K likes and still 0 dislikes. So Paramount is "on a roll" with that movie and will very obviously beat that Dinsey cash-grab movie when they both try to get to the victory Goal Ring at the box office this December.

The LK remake only made +$1 billion for the nostalgia bait. Nobody's talked about it since it left theaters, and we've gotten far more sick of these remakes in general. A sequel to a type of film we're sick of is DOA. Disney also knows better not to call this "live-action." It's just like their film "Dinosaur;" 3D animation with live-action backgrounds.

I think at this point it isn't so much about the movie as it is the creators. Disney has lost its support from an ever-increasing amount of people and they don't learn from their mistakes. That's fine if you want to virtue signal but it's financial suicide.

Disney is full on pulling the retcon on the IP and true fans aren’t happy. This “prequel” is setting up Scar to be the victim. Just like all the recent Disney movies. Because villains can’t exist anymore. Also, LK to me is a family IP, not just a boy’s brand.

I mean this as no offense but it’s kinda unfair that you say that both the Mario and the Sonic franchises are for boys when there are some girls who like them as well I should know cause I’m a 20 yr old girl that grew up on Mario and still love it to this day. And I can say the same about Sonic. I became a fan of Sonic because of the movies (in a way) I’ve watched both the last Sonic Movies and the Mario Movie on opening day. It’s unfair that you say these franchises are for boys when that’s not the case. Everything is for everyone and we shouldn’t have to view anything as made for a certain gender or audience if other people outside of the target demographic like it as well. And I say all of this in the nicest way possible. I don’t mean to sound rude about it or anything. My prediction is that Sonic 3 will have a larger opening weekend, but Mufasa will make more money across both film’s overall lifespan in theaters. However, I also predict that Sonic 3 will outperform Mufasa when it comes to home media and Blu-ray sales.

As a child growing up in the '90s, Disney was a staple of entertainment in my house. Back then Disney was a trusted brand that produced quality entertainment with excellent storytelling that was just as enjoyable for the parents as it was for the kids. I would say this was true up until the 2010s. Now, I will not allow my kids to see anything Disney unless I have personally vetted it. Most of the Disney content my kids watch is what we purchased on physical media through the years or on Amazon. I refuse to subscribe to Disney +. I am very much looking forward to Sonic 3, and we will be marathoning the first two movies before it's release. Unless there is MAJOR change in the right direction, I would rather Disney fade into memory and let this last decade be forgotten.

I think a big part of it is people are sick of the live action or photorealistic demakes of the animated classics. The Live Action Demakes are Dying, took people too damn long but Good Riddance to these Desecrations.
