Sick sculpt and a nice paint job! A great way to make presents is cutting a tiny cube of packing foam and wrapping it in masking tape, tied with thick thread 🎁

Thanks for this tip! Those square presents really weren't holding their shape, this makes much more sense and looks easy to do.

@@melsminiloft Masking tape takes paint nicely to make great paper, cloth or leather, and far easier to shape than having to sculpt. Also if you want to avoid paint getting under your masking tape on the candy canes, go over them once with your base colour to seal the tape to your previous layer, allow to dry then paint your alternating colour as normal. When you peel the tape you should have a perfect crisp line 🙂. Well done on such a fun scheme, it's making me want to make my own Santa kitbash 😂

At first the idea of a Santa Lion felt so wrong, but once I saw the head I was like yep, no, that's actually brilliant. PS. I play Orks. Kitbashing is love. Kitbashing is life.

Santa is ready to slay! The head bash is spot on! For tape, I recommend trying Tamiya yellow tape in assorted widths. The blue painter's tape doesn't conform to details well. Before laying down tape, I paint the lighter color over the area, then seal it with acrylic varnish. That helps prevent the tape from pulling up paint later. Take a stripe of Tamiya's tape and stick it to the back of your hand, pull it off, then apply it to the model. This step will remove the tackiest of the adhesive, but the tape will remain quite sticky. If you are making stripes, lay down stripes of tape butting against the previous stripe. You can use the same width, or not, depending on how you want your pattern to look. Once you cover the area, remove every other stripe of tape, and you now have even parallel lines. Burnish the tape with a cotton bud or color shaper to help seal the edge of the tape and reduce the chance of under spray. Paint, the peel off the tape. See how that works out for you. Another quick comment is that epoxy putties take a bit to cure, and will begin to slowly harden after mixing. Let the putty sit for 15-30 minutes before carving into it. It will cut instead of tear once it begins to set up.

The gold would really pop you're right, especially after seeing it on the presents it could have tied it together well. Looking up Grimnar he seems like such a great model for a Santa conversion, especially with the wolves and sleigh!

@@melsminiloft Agreed, gold would have done a nice job here. Next time, when you look for references, take a step back and focus less on the model, but on the colour scheme. All the Dark Angels references are in a certain paint job, true, but when you are looking for colours that fit to red and white, go to the other angels. Blood Angels have plenty of references and they show of what goes with red and white, very nicely.

Hi Mel! I come here curtesy of @LizardofDoom! Great video, fantastic kitbashing and paintjob. A suggestion for the cloak - highlight with an orange then glaze/shade over the top to push the brightness of the orange back a bit. Working up from a brown/dark red base coat would also work well 🙂

To get sharp lines in milliput you need to leave it alone for a while (like 20-30 minutes) to begin to set, then you can slice it into strips or chunks. Will still be pliable, but not so goopy/sticky.

Detail is simple as cleaning up fine detailed brush. Once you get a set of fine small paint brushes. I have done this and improved the quality of the paint jobs I do on minis.
