But When I see soldiers running around in grey where there should be black, or when he painted ships from the Black Seas set with grey guns it just rubs the wrong way.

I'm obsessed with @heresyforheretics rn :O I really love how he goes for artistic expression above all, every mini he puts out is so cool and unique. I feel like it's pretty easy for all of us who got into mini painting from GW to just try to emulate 'Eavy Metal style and stay inside that comfort zone, and I always feel like @heresyforheretics manages to put all of that aside and find some beautiful essence in the plastic itself that he just channels into reality. I feel like I very easily obsess over technique when painting my own minis, and I love how HfH over and over shows that, first off, less is more, and second of all, we're trying to make art, not just boast about technique. Really has me asking myself, "does this extra layer of extreme highlighting bring me joy" lol Everything feels so deliberate. Artistic vision above all.

Obviously you can't name them all, but I noted that pretty much all the painters, with the exception of Peachy, were top end painters prepared to use a few hours on a single model. Midwinter Minis started their show demonstrating quick and easy paint schemes using minimal colours with quite surprising finishes. The same could be said about Sonic Sledgehammer, Mediocre Minis and Zorpazorp. Sonic Sle4dgehammer does historical rather than Sci-Fi but the technique is transferable. Besides, I just got into Bolt Action and he does that quite well. The point is, as Ninjon once said, "If you start off with five hours per model, you are never going to finish that army". By the way Ninjon completed one model that rates amongst my most favourite, a pirate Budgie. Look it up, it is brilliant in every way.

Some great mentions in this one, especially Lukas at Squidmar! He is a delight to watch and always enjoy when he is apart of a Squidmar video. The honorable mentions really saved this video imo lol. And even then it failed to mention Vincy V and Trovarion. To not even mention or show Duncan Rhodes as apart of the Gamesworkshop/eavy metal style is criminal lol

Dave at Infernal Brush is the GOAT. Jon Ninas and Darren Latham also worth shouts out!

For me the one person that really opened my mind to different approaches to painting was Marco NJM. He employs classical art techniques in his mini painting and is really good at simplifying methods and making them easy to understand. One of the best

I want to shout out Sonic Sledgehammer Studio. Loads of quite varied, achievable and scalable tutorials. Good for those short on time but not necessarily looking for speed painting, as well as those still getting to grips with the hobby.

Brushforhire, mainly streams on twitch. 5 days a week. He just streams when he works painting stuff. Lovely place to hang out and chill, he is always happy to answer questions about what he is doing and painting in general.

I feel like Marco Frisoni deserves more than a quick honourable mention; in my opinion his channel is the second best for learning minipainting (after Vince Venturella) and the best bar none for learning colour theory. He's also the most wholesome and enthusiastic Italian on the planet. Another (VERY niche) recommendation: James Wappel is *the* oil painting guy.

Lichs Labratory is one of my favorite kitbashers and a solid painter, he has a heavy focus on lore and does his build around a theme or story. Others have mentioned Ninjon, Vince Venturella, Jain Hidalgo, Trovarion and Sam Lenz. All these guys have really pushed my painting to the next level.

Came back to add Sonic Sledgehammer to the list of recommendations.. Much like Peachy, he's all about getting your toys to the table while still looking good. I find his instructions perfect for knocking out a squad in record time.

Great video with a few I'm off to follow now! I'm a big fan of Vince Venturella's painting tips and while he's far above my level, his guides are easy to follow and give a lot of great advice on painting from beginner to masterworks.

I want to nominate ‘SultanPlays40k’ channel. Their kit-bashing and saturated aesthetic that then sees life in battle reports is outstanding.

I know there are thousands out there, but if you haven't come across this account, I would absolutely recommend The Warsinger! They make super detailed and chaotic conversions and full own minis using wires, got glue, and absolutely stunning paintjobs!
