I love Kimba's interactions with Lune. He's so loving and affectionate with his son. Also really cool how he validated Lune's ideas about mankind and actually had a discussion about it instead of pretending it was nothing. A+ parenting right there. Way to go, Kimba.

If you watch the original 1960's anime or read the original manga, the reason why Kimba validates Lune's ideas is because he shared the same ideas as a cub. Kimba loved humans and wanted for humans and animals to live together. It's only when he founds out that humans can be cruel is why he stays at the jungle, to protect his fathers kingdom. In the movie he says "My duty is the protect the jungle. I won't start a war with man."

Idk there's an episode where Kimba takes his son in the middle of nowhere, then leaves him to almost die. Kimba only steps in when his son is about to be actually gutted.

There history, writers, animators, concept etc. Japanese manga officially started in the 12-13 century. And tezuka wrote manga before the 1950’s. Japan ripped off Western American drawing techniques like the big eyes and mouths with anthropomorphism for their anime and manga since the 50's. So without Japan allowing our stuff in their country, Kimba the white lion would had looked like the CGI version of the Lion King without the anthropomorphism. Oh and Bambi's mother was shot by hunters before Kimba's father was killed by hunters. So I guess Kimba ripped off many different story's to come to be.

I want to put my opinion that there are things that separate lion King from Kimba and things that made them similar. How Disney reacted to their "beloved" movie franchise and how they didn't at least say, "okay, maybe there's another group of movies out there that is similar to ours," And instead filed a cease and desist order, and just straight took somethings from the show without admitting, was Grade A asshole behavior. TL;DR basically I think lion king and kimba should be respected as two movie franchises that exist, and instead focus on Disney's scummy behavior to the thing.

It doesn't really leave me speechless. Leo never wanted to fight humans, he just realized it kept jeopardizing the animals too much to try and merge their worlds. Lune having a similar more innocent outlook at first makes sense when he hasn't dealt with humans like his dad has, yet. Plus this movie was the end of the story, anyway. I'm not sure how people would understand or enjoy it much if they weren't familiar with the series to be left "speechless." XD

His name is actually Leo, and always has been. His name was only changed to Kimba for the English dub, for whatever reason. But yes, that English dub name is what Disney made their MC's name suspiciously similar to. Jungle Emperor has existed since 1950 and the creator, Osamu Tezuka, was always an open Disney fan who credited them as inspirations for his artwork in the past. Guess Disney didn't wanna return that credit favor, though...

And someone who watched this animation a lot it's fucking annoying to see all the comments on Lion King ripping it off rather than the actual content. To everyone arguing about the Kimba and Lion King fiasco, just remember these few points. 1. Yes Kimba was inspired by Bambi, even the creators admit to that. And they used that inspiration to create their own story. Sure, both situations involve humans killing an animal parent, but how each film handles it is different. 2. Yes, Lion King is heavily inspired by Kimba, but the story has no humans, and is more of a Hamlet/Kimba love child. Plus both versions have their own quirks. 3. Yes, Japan was inspired by Western animation. But that doesn't mean they copied Disney. Japan took what they liked and modified it to make their own style. It is perfectly fine to be inspired, and their is no such thing as stealing an art style, unless you're stealing art itself or are tracing. If it was possible to steal a style, then we wouldn't have as many artists creating comics and shows, because their natural or comfortable way of drawing is "copying someone else."

Yoshihiro Shimizu, the company's director, stated that many of their employees saw resemblances between the two properties, but "any similarities in their plots are based in the facts of nature and therefore are two different works". In his book, Makoto Tezuka states that the controversy started in America and people inflated the issue because of their opposition to Disney's business practices. He also states that he refuses to participate in this denunciation of Disney and that he does not want to see his father's works being turned into a weapon for those people. Tezuka acknowledges that Kimba and The Lion King are two different stories with different themes, and if the latter was about a white lion who spoke with humans, then he would not be able to pardon the similarities.

Not many people know this but the movie SIMBA was inspired by this. Disney didn't want people to know where the idea came from so what the did is say that the story was real and original. If you watch the whole story of kimba you'll see that they are almost the same...

seeing this kinda makes me wish we saw humans in the lion king.(i know that's kinda charming about it that due to being the few disney movies to not feature humans in anyway so it could take place at any time period but i always wondered what would happen if simba encountered africans at one point,and people including me have wanted the lion king to have a crossover with tarzan as both are pretty much next door in terms of location in africa,i'd be down with that.:3)

Things I never liked about this film: Kimba and Rune have brown eyes instead of blue, they didn't use the cubs' design from the manga (where both of them are white, Rune doesn't have the ear rims, but Rukkio does), the authors tried to make this film using the second part of the manga, but it's like... build a house without foundations: Kimba and his family can't speak, he doesn't know Moustache (he is Kenichi's uncle. Kenichi is the boy who raised Kimba, why Kimba doesn't recognize him?), in the circus there is that girl, Mary, when Mary was actually Hamegg's daughter and future Kenichi's wife, Hamegg here is still alive, when in the manga he was killed by Bubu when Kimba was still a cub; the castle where Kimba lives isn't a ruin, but it was built by animals to comfort Laia for Rune's disappearence; Dr Plus and Minus don't go to expedition, there aren't Pierre and Albert, Kenichi's classmates; in the Manga Rune discuss the human thing with Laia, not Kimba (and his mum gets angry with him). And much more things different from the manga. This film doesn't give to Kimba his background, here he seems a random lion, when behind him there is a complex story. No, after reading the manga, I didn't appreciate this film anymore. They should have make a film trilogy, each for every volume, to give to the characters a solid background, not just the last one like that.
