You can _see_ the pain in her eyes when she confronts the knight with the broken gem, and you can see the realization in his eyes--he killed a baby just to get a pretty rock, and he tried to kill his lover because he doesn't see dragons as people, just animals. That's why he kneels before the Dragon Queen; he knows he fucked up and that's really the only penance he can offer; his life.

I only just noticed now, that the knight doesn't turn into THE baby dragon, but simply A baby dragon. The original baby in the beginning has purple eyes and chest gem. But when the knight turns into a baby dragon, he has BLUE eyes and a blue chest gem. So the mother dragon didn't get her child back - she instead created a new child to raise and to give a new chance at life. I think the reason why this change in color is so easily missed is because the colors are very similar, and because there's like 10 minutes between seeing the purple-eyed dragon and the blue-eyed dragon, so you could probably forget what color the original baby had and assume the mother remade her child using its soul and the knight's body and life force. That's what I assumed at first, at least. But now I see that it was only a transformation of the knight, not a reincarnation of the baby. If anything, the princess being transformed by the baby's soul was probably more of a reincarnation of it than for the knight.

When you said "A new child to raise and a new chance at life" gave that whole part a different meaning to me now- the Prince was very obviously distraught at what he did and seemed pretty remorseful, and I can pretty much imagine that people at this age saw dragons as dangerous creatures, "sharks with wings" even, that's why he was so willing to kill the baby at the beginning, but seeing that his lover was the dragon he sought revenge to, and then the mother dragon presented him that necklace with her offsprings gem, this is probably when he realized that these dragons aren't just feral animals and are sentient. So those factors may have played to his willingness in the end? And I'm guessing the mother dragon notices this. It could also be that the dragons in this universe are seen as either divine or monstrous beings-either way very powerful. The prince done fkded around and found out, but maybe she is also giving him a chance cuz she didn't exactly kill him. A chance to be a better soul, which she taught it to be? Anyway, got a new perspective on this animation woohoo!

​@@comfortme Same - I noticed it the first time I watched it. Also, the title is "Reversal of the Heart." I take it as basically remorse and redemption. I.e. the process of when one does some grave error and commits to it, refusing to change their ways until it hits them in the face what the consequences of their actions are, and they realize what they've done and the effect it's had. At that point, if they accept that they are imperfect, they may feel great remorse and want to make up for what they've done. At that point, they realize there's much they don't know, and are like a child again in learning to become better than they were.

Plus, they could always show the knight; who just so happens to be having the worst time of his life just trying to reach the 'Dragon Mountain'; yet still he tries because he's 'ANGRY and WANTS REVENGE!'. I could so see the knight having one of those arrogant personalities like Suzaku from Code Geass; treating the people like mere garbage

I disagree. He might of been heartless towards the dragon but he definitely was not evil and was not a coward. He spent half of the short trying to avenge his love. I think he submitted in the end because he did everything for her and she rejected him. He also acknowledged the mother dragon's right to kill him. I honestly dislike the princess the most: she smiled when he was turned into a baby dragon (losing everything he was) when everything he did was for her. She can do with having some empathy.

Yeah, actually the baby is the knight. The baby’s eye color is purple but the baby transformed by the knight had blue eyes. Meaning that the knight was turned into a baby dragon. The Knight might've killed the baby dragon, tried to kill the dragon he thought killed his love then realizes it was her the whole time, yes he's quite a jerk but, surprisingly, in the end he knew what he did was wrong. We see his utter surprise and regret when he saw the princess transform back to a human being, we see how sad he looked when he knew that the princess can't forgive him and it wasn't him the princess desired (if she ever did) anymore, then he calmly accepted his punishment by the mother dragon because he knew he deserved it. Poor guy was blinded by love, I don't think that he was exactly evil, every man and woman has their flaws and are not perfect. He killed the baby dragon with no hesitation at first probably because he doesn't realize how bad his action was, plus he was doing it for a reason (which is... not quite a fair reason, in my opinion), dragons were probably viewed as "evil" in this short films universe, so killing a little dragon did not seem like a big deal until the consequences. I personally like how the villain is written here because he showed his regret cleary and accepted his fate, and now gets a second chance by having a second life, living as a baby dragon.

11 years since I saw this when it first came out. I was only 4 years old and was just looking through my parents KZbin. This animation was great for its time it's short but tells a movie worth of story. And it's probably the animation that got me into liking dragons. Honestly this whole animation could probably make a short movie or even 10 episodes and give time to explore the journey that happened throughout which would have made it better. But that is the only way they could have improved it and it's really amazing how well done it is.

I have a theory about how the knight was turned into her son. I think that even after a dragon is killed, there is still a chance they can come back. All that is needed is the heart stone of the dead dragon, a living lifeform, and the dragonfire of a relative to the dead dragon. Then the dragonfire will be blown upon the stone and lifeform, and then the lifeform will lose all memory of its previous existence to become the dead dragon.

I love how at the end the man is overcome by guilt and regret to the point he understands his sin and accepts punishment. It was his fault the woman he loved became a dragon and then was relentlessly hunted by him. You can see how he didn't sleep and was just obsessed of killing the beast that murdered his love. Her rejection was the last straw, he didn't want to live. And the fact I don't understand the mother's reasoning of taking in the murderer as her new son makes her all the more alien and wise. Wonderful ending to the story overall.

Alright this is a master peice why? 1. This is a perfect example of show don't tell. The story is easy to follow and it shows perfect emotion without even needing any dialogue or words. The characters actions speak for themselves and it is incredible! 2. The animation is really great. It is really smooth and nothing distracts from the quality. I love the sense of weight you have whenever a dragon flaps it's wings to take off, another thing on the dragons I frigging love the flying animation. It is strong, powerful, and they don't take many flaps like a bird would. When a lot of people animate flying dragons or anything in general it feels like they are flapping at the wrong angle and I hate it when they pause mid air and hold their body up and flap from the back to the stomach at such an angle, there's a reason why hummingbirds flap in a figure eight it's so they can hover. Dragons with big wings shouldn't be able to do that at such an angle. 3. I really like the style and character designs. The baby dragons look cute and unassuming and not just a shrunken grown up. The mother dragon looks ferocious. The princess looks soft and innocent. The knight just looks like a bad guy. And the wizard looks like innocent nerd boi. The style is really expressive and I love the backgrounds and nearly every shot is like a masterpiece. 4. It is open to your own representation to how or why anything happens in the story. I personally think that the mother dragon herself enchanted her babies heart, gem, stone, soul thing to turn the princess into a dragon. This way it would look like a dragon killed her and the knight would act upon revenge and follow her to where he would be turned into a baby. He attacks the princess, making him feel guilty when he learns the truth and essentially punishing himself knowing that he attacked his own love and nearly killed her. So the mother dragon was A. Punishing his actions and B. Bringing the knight to her without the mother dragon having to do any of the dirty work.5. The music is stunning. It really sets the mood and helps to push the story forward. It blends incredibly well to the visuals in general This is such a good video and it deserves all the recognition that it gets!

I agree with most of this comment. In my opinion, the music wasn't that good, maybe it should've been more dramatic at certain moments or it just didn't suit the scene very well. Another thing, the animation is really good, it's smooth and the draws are really nice, but there are some parts that were a little funny looking. I'm not an expert or critic, but those are my thoughts at least It's _really_ good, but it's not a masterpiece

@Siningahma By KZbin standards it is pretty good including during 2011. I actually kinda forgot to add anything about the music cause it kinda just blended in the background and wasn't very acknowledgable but it was pretty good so I had to say something about it. Granted the style at some points looks really wonky (human anatomy am I right?). You are very right that it is no masterpiece but it's still pretty good 👌🏻

Emma Dal Degan not really, a tv series has more time for character development and deep exploration of the lore of this world, a movie has to expose all of that in the span of 1:30-3 hours run to do the exact same thing, I thing the movie actually has a more chance ruin it.

I really love the play with the helmet. Like the princess not even recognising him with it on and only when it came off did he show what I think is his true character and not the role he was put in aka you're a knight you have to slay dragons and that's the correct way in this world. Showed when he took it off and the remorse he had over hurting the princess and killing the baby dragon. Also the display of dragons as a more regal race and the mother not just going on a rampage but effectively putting the curse on the "heart" of her child and then using it and the soldier's soul to make a rebirth happen.

It's been three years since I first seen this animation and I still love the magic and story of love and the vengeance for a fallen one. It.. It's one of those things that always wanting yky to stay and watch it over and over. It has a great plot, the characters have their own unique personality it all just blends so good together that it leaves you wanting more even though you know the story is compleated.

The original baby actually lives because Mama dragon over here fused the crystal of her baby with the man's body (she used it as building blocks) which is why she just took it as her own, because is is her own. Sure it doesn't have the purple eyes or crystal and it's not a girl, but that's how reincarnation works, you are reincarnated but you're not the same person. Different gender, hobbies, - it's really just the original baby in another body. And I love that

When I watched this as a kid I didn't finish the rest. I stopped it at the part where the baby dragon died. And the I cried really hard and had anxiety at that part and never finished it til now. I feel the relief now. I think it traumatized me ngl. Edit: I was like super young watching this that's why. But this film is a beauty you can just feel the vibe. No it's a masterpiece. Like no matter how old it is that vibe nevers disappears.
