Those old school Railsounds are part of my childhood, from all the different model train VHS tapes. Love it.

They are pretty neat, I’m most likely going to leave her as is and not covert it to the newer sounds.

There were plans to repaint it Conrail. The Conrail historical society purchased the actual drawings for the Conrail train which included #2101 in blue with the Conrail logo on the tender and a drawing of a heavyweight observation in Conrail. However the round house where #2101 was store caught fire and the locomotive was badly damaged and the frame cracked. The locomotive was considered non repairable. There are many who doubt the Conrail would have went forward with the proposed plan but we will never know for sure. Lionel did make a Conrail T1 steam locomotive based on the original proposed plans so it's not totally fantasy either since it almost happened.

That would have been amazing! Both those schemes are beautiful. The CR historical society has done miracle work , especially repairing that switcher that’s housed and leased at the B&O museum

Hi Sean. Of interest about the 2101, Ross Rowland made a great deal with Chessie after the fire. He got the C&O 614 in the swap and a complete cosmetic restoration of 2101 as AFT 1. The tender actually suffer the most damage. It was swapped with 2100's tender during the cosmetic restoration. I am not aware of a cracked frame, only that is was more cost effective to Chessie System to trade locomotives and do the cosmetic restoration. Sadly, while 2101 does look very rough, it is a special locomotive, with a special history. And, I am glad it didn't meet the scrappers torch. Three times is truly a charm! Had it actually made to the Conrail scheme and operations, I am sure that Mr. Rowland would have held on to her longer. Mr. Rowland was also instrumental in working with Mr. Kughn to get 2100 operational again. The tender had all of the damage repaired, and the locomotive looked great in the paint scheme that was between freight service and the Rambles. And, it looked that little bit different with the visor on the headlight. Lastly Sean, yes I wound buy the Conrail scheme if I could find it and afford it!

Great video Nick, such a beautiful engine. Loved all the different camera angles including it getting knocked off the tender at the end. I was impressed it didn’t hit the ceiling and then, bang! Love it.

That's a fine aquisition Nick! Congratulations! Personally I'm not too crazy about the "chuff-chuff" but the electronic whistle sounds pretty good! A couple of things. CSX never had a steam program but they DID allow steam excursions until the early 2000's. Then with a change of management steam excursions were forbidden. In fact ALL types of antique railroad equipment were prohibited on CSX trackage and remain so till this day. They DID make an exception for a dead-in-tow move of an L&N steam engine to a restoration site in (I think) 2019 but that was a relatively short run. As far as CSX is concerned they're in the business of moving "stuff" from Point A to Point B, not entertaining railfans or anyone else. So it goes. That's Norfolk-Southern's attitude now as well although N-S will allow antique equipment moves. Since everyone else's "Chessie Steam Special" cars seem to be outrageously priced I'd just grab any Williams ones you run across. Nothing wrong with Williams! Another fun video! Thanks for posting!
@NixCrossing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! That makes sense with CSX not allowing the vintage equipment, even though their maintenance train consists of C&O flatcars that still say C&O 😂. But on a serious not , they have a CSX vintage executive car at the B&O museum in Baltimore. I wish they all could restore the 490. It’s such an amazing locomotive. Definitely on the hunt for more Williams cars

@@NixCrossing I've seen C&O 490 at the B&O Museum myself! First off, I was amazed one of those "Yellowbellies" still existed (I call it "The Big Banana!) and even more amazed it's in such good condition. I can't help but wonder what it would take to get it running again. Probably a LOT more than we realize! I'm not holding my breath though.

Hi Nick. Glad you found this locomotive. I was fortunate back in 2012 to find it (was also very lucky with the price of $180.) I Love it. Definitely be careful of the tether. I had to fabricate a replacement after messing up the original... Enjoy it!

Shame the real locomotive was damaged in a fire and will most likely never run again. The problem with upgrading trains is that it’s expensive and it’s hard to find people who know how to do it. Honestly, the addition of more detail and sounds is one of the reasons model railroading is declining I think.
