Full personnel : tp (left to right) : Doc Cheatham, Cat Anderson, Jimmie Maxwell, Joe Newman, tb : John Gordon, Benny Powell, Kai Winding Saxes : Arnett Cobb (ts) , Charles Mc Pherson (as), Earl Warren (as) , Paul Moen (ts), Pepper Adams ( bs) Rythm session : Billy Mackell guitar (more than 30 years with Hamp at the time !), the ex Woody Herman alumni, (and father of future Hampton drummer Duffy) Chubby Jackson, Ray Bryant on piano, and the mighty Dave Panama Francis on drums, probably the best drummer to work with Hampton ever! An incredible combination putting side by side a hard bop Parker disciple and the lead alto of the 30's Basie band, this was truly an all-star band and the best of the later days Hampton band. (even if I don't like Paul Moen's style)

As a kid my family lived in London Ontario Canada. My dad was building a family room in the basement and every weekend I would go down into the basement and every weekend my dad put on his Lionel Hampton album and I danced that album to death. I was around 8 or 9 at the time. That was my intro to jazz. I could'nt wait for the weekend.

Saw a similar band on 17th July 1978 at Middlesborough football stadium but Mike Vax tpt and Ernie Wilkins alto. The North Sea gig had better sound and the film crew did a fantastic job
