Full personnel : tp (left to right) : Doc Cheatham, Cat Anderson, Jimmie Maxwell, Joe Newman, tb : John Gordon, Benny Powell, Kai Winding Saxes : Arnett Cobb (ts) , Charles Mc Pherson (as), Earl Warren (as) , Paul Moen (ts), Pepper Adams ( bs) Rythm session : Billy Mackell guitar (more than 30 years with Hamp at the time !), the ex Woody Herman alumni, (and father of future Hampton drummer Duffy) Chubby Jackson, Ray Bryant on piano, and the mighty Dave Panama Francis on drums, probably the best drummer to work with Hampton ever! An incredible combination putting side by side a hard bop Parker disciple and the lead alto of the 30's Basie band, this was truly an all-star band and the best of the later days Hampton band. (even if I don't like Paul Moen's style)

As a kid my family lived in London Ontario Canada. My dad was building a family room in the basement and every weekend I would go down into the basement and every weekend my dad put on his Lionel Hampton album and I danced that album to death. I was around 8 or 9 at the time. That was my intro to jazz. I could'nt wait for the weekend.

Same deal here. When we were kids we sort of 'learned' to love what the parents had because we didn't have much. Played every album we loved over and over until you could see though it.

Thank you for preserving and showing that cat, Hamp, performing at his best and his orchestra. So more generations of musicians can listen to, appreciate, and strive to exceed the spectacular performance of the Vibe man.

Great vibes. I played piano almost 15 years before starting to explore the vibraphone. Amazing instrument unlike any other.
fantastico, trascinante swing di tutti i musicisti, particolarmente della voce e vibrafono di Lionel Hampton: performance eccezionale👍

Mr. Lionel Hampton... consummate musician and all around great human being to boot. Has some great cats around him for this concert... I really get a kick out of seeing him enjoy himself and the play of his bandmates throughout. This cat could flat set down and hold a groove.

I'm 81. I saw Lionel Hampton live in Denmark in the late fifties. That was a party. Ekstra numbers for about 45 minutes.
