As a teen-ager, I saw Hamp with Benny Goodman, way back in '63. What fabulous musicians! Hampton was a part of Benny's famous 'Octet'. Lionel was such a piece of work! The music, the soulful grunts, the guy was a performer like few others!

Habe Lalli Hemden 1962 in der Westfalenhalle sehen bei 20.000 Zuschauer Einmaliges Erlebnis. Das wird heute nicht mehr geboten. Da war was los.

I was fortunate enough to see him, and I am a bit proud of it. In a small town close to Hamburg called Pinneberg, you wouldn’t expect to find a musician of that caliber and his big band - but there he was: Lionel Hampton! The entertainment was marvelous. If I remember correctly, it was in late spring of 1990. I did a little research about the event - it was indeed a memorable occasion. Lionel Hampton performed in Pinneberg on May 20, 1990. The concert took place in a large hall at the traditional Hotel 'Cap Polonio.' Given the venue's historical charm and the event's significance, it’s no wonder it left such a lasting impression.

Lionel Hampton was a excellent percussionist and composer. In Harlem New York as a kid several times I saw his big band perform and he tour a drum set to pieces. Excellent big band drummer, then he go over the piano and then xylophone. Lionel Hampton is the only man I know that could play right behind Count Basie. In which that is almost impossible to do.

All you music affacianatos, the great Lionel Hampton, the n the latter part of his career, playing Hamp's Boogie Woogie. Up on on your feet and start movin' and groovin'. Doesn't get much better than this. And unusual arrangement with FULL orchestration.

Biggest "quartet" I've ever seen! 😯 It's obvious that Lionel's talent was waning at this time in his life. He simply kept the beat and hardly played those vibes at all while the pianist carried the main part of Hamp's Boogie. MUCH more vibrant in his early days. I love those days!
