The funny part was that I was originally gonna get their N&W 2-Bay hopper for my N&W Class A. But I decided to go for the Athearn one because I am more familiar with Athearn. I was wondering why Trainworld was selling these for dirt cheap, now I know why thanks to your video.

Athearn Blue Boxes and Accurails are a better deal than these. Old but work and endlessly customizable/upgradeable.

Check the cone shape on the end of the axles. I had some BLI hoppers that dragged in only on direction. They had less than symmetrical cone shapes at the ends of the axles

The Lionel HO line is kind of a joke unfortunately. The tooling for those hoppers and a lot of the Model Power freight cars is ancient and can be traced back to Marx HO.

Its sad because I got 2 christmas cars last year and they ran great. Quality must have gone downhill big time

@@RodimusPrime that's a bummer, definitely seems like Lionel isn't really following through on it well.

Thank You Happy Holliday's!! Trainland had the 9.99 special long island cqboose by Lionel good out of the box!!

Its important to note that, unlike the passenger cars in the HO polar express, these freight cars are NOT new designs. they are refugees from the now long defuncted model power company, which Lionel bought the rights and tolling to a few years back from MRC. All Lionel did, as with its infamous hospital train set, was to put metal wheels in place of the plastic ones, and place these cars in their own designed boxes.

The problem is also the fact that the couplers are attached to the trucks!!

The irony of the old Marx tooling being used by Lionel is too much for me... I have a couple Marx gondolas and I'd wager they roll about the same if not better, with plastic wheels and axles. What confuses me, is I figured Lionel would still have their old postwar HO tooling somewhere, but they haven't revived any of that. Maybe it's not still around? The postwar Lionel cars I have, I would also suspect roll as good as, maybe better. Definitely too bad the quality control isn't so good on contemporary Lionel HO at the moment.

Some of Lionel’s postwar stuff was made by athearn. Depends on the timeframe and specific product. The later one from the 70s are rebadged bachmann items 🤮
@leverettrailfan5414 Жыл бұрын
@@bracdude181 most of my postwar Lionel HO is the stuff they made themselves, but I do have a couple of the Athearn and Rivarossi made products. I also have a couple early MPC items that I believe were made using Lionel's own tooling- an ALCo chassis and Great Northern caboose. At some point they switched over to Roco and whoever was making Bachmann's stuff in Taiwan, but I don't really know when and generally I'm more interested in collecting stuff from before that period. I don't own many late MPC HO items, they're just not as interesting to me. I'm more interested in the stuff that was derived from pw tooling.

This model reminds me of the Mehano HO scale cars. They look cool, but they run poorly.
