Norm's Trains

I recently acquired this Lionel Legacy switcher and modified it for Kadees. While I was at it, I managed to lower the tender's ride height and gave it a bit of weathering. Here's a few clips of it doing some chores around the engine yard.

I believe I see my 1940s childhood house @ 6:08. We then lived across from the Erie switchyard and the beat of these engines is still stuck in my brain.

Norm, your layout and the weathering and furthermore the attention to detail for this era is simply AMAZING ARTISTRY! Your greatest feat - shared with the amazing detail of the Lionel (Cowan) Legacy engines and cars - is to get me to FORGET or vanish the third rail! I grew up in Baltimore and knew trains out of Philly and all points North, South to DC and West in both steam, diesel elect & electric. Your work is stunning. Thanks. Arthur (Ngai)

For the record he died about two years later in August 1967 at 109 years old a few months short of 110.

What was your process for lowering the tender? I'll be doing one and it's my first time trying such a change

Do you know if the old 89 o6o b6 switcher was considered scale or not?

How do you put the tender so close to the locomotive even Though the tender has a big drawbar wire connecting the locomotive
@normstrains
@normstrains 5 жыл бұрын
Michael Dembek can’t remember if I drilled the drawbar out but the tether tucks in ok.

I’ve got a new one and the tether is busted out of the box ?. Lionel has no parts? They say they have these engines stacked up for repairs. All having same problem. How’s yours ok?. Anyway I subscribed to the channel

The oil attacks weathering? Too coat of acrylic water based should stop that.....or a lacquer or urethane.

@@normstrains Looks a lot like a shunter's truck, like the Great Western Railway in the UK used; both to ferry shunters around the bigger yards, and to operate the automated signalling systems, when the engine used for the shunting work was a very small one.

David Abramczyk I should have put this calibrated dead weight car just in front of the caboose as per standard practice from what I've read. It got moved around the system to scale houses where needed for calibration of weigh scales.
