After just winning a treble with Barça, Messi arrived confident and in excellent physical condition for the 2015 Copa America. Another good tournament for Leo individually, but which once again ended with a final loss for Argentina. Messi created the two best chances in that final, and the only Argentine to score his penalty, but got treated as a flop by many yet again.

I think it's because no one watches these games and tournaments. No one is going to pay for a channel to watch the Copa America unless they have an interest in one of the teams or players (aka us, interest in Messi). So they see he failed to score in 5 games and call him a flop, when the reality is he was by far the best player at the tourney.

A tournament which prooves the huge influence Messi has when he is on the pitch. Even if he doesn't score a goal or gets a direct assist, he is massively involved in everything his side produces. He cannot be meisured by dumb statistics. Without him Argentina is nothing and also Barca is nearly nothing to be honest. If he has a bad day (like against Rome) those teams massively fail. He is literally everything and everybody thinks that he HAS to deliver everytime he plays, because of those ultra-high standards he has set for himself over the years. There is so much pressure on him, you cannot imagine !! If Argentina fails the world cup again, the whole nation will surely haunt him like they always do. They dont realize how shitty their team is and that Messi is the only one playing. In the end they only see the loss, and that Messi wasn't capable of saving them again for the 10000 time. Messi deserves so much more, it is sad. His unbelievable talent is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Many people also seem to forget that he is a human being who cant always be at the absolute peak (which he mostly is) He is no robot, its always a matter of the circumstances. Sometimes its a small degree between success and failure... In my opinion he is the best footballer, who ever touched the ball. Period :)

This was similar to me. Although at the time it was difficult to appreciate his tourney because of the final loss, in hindsight this was arguably his best tourney for Argentina. The stats might not be the best (1g, 3a) but the way he performed each game was spectacular!

Watching Messi play for Argentina these days is like watching that one guy do everything in a group project. He's literally the only one on the pitch who DOES anything for Argentina. Without him, his teammates have such a low confidence level that they forget how to pass the ball to the attackers and keep passing along the midfield until they lose the ball and concede 2 goals.
