I'm a white guy who's now 52 years old and I've been listening to Lionel Richie since 1979. I've loved just about everything he's ever put out as a solo artist or with The Commodores. I never once thought of his music as "black music". I just knew I loved what I was hearing. Still (no pun intended), the importance of black music up to about 1990 on American culture cannot be understated.
