As both a model railroader and a Star Trek fan, I can appreciate this set. It's not my scale (I run N scale), and it's a bit cheesy, but if I ran across one for the right price, I'd probably pick it up just to run it under the tree. I'm a fan of the CB&Q silver and red F-unit paint scheme, and this is very reminiscent of that. All it's missing is a caboose painted to look like a couple of warp nacelles. Thanks for the unboxing!

This is so neat and it looks great in that paint scheme. It does need phaser and photon torpedo sounds though. They need to make a Borg version next. That would look sick with black and green colors.

Very Interesting and Enjoyed it... I personally would have preferred the Original Series with Kirk, but this is good. I did notice one thing they could have done better and that is with the Holodeck Car... the Holo Train Track was moving with the Train and Not Stationary... First time I ever saw a track moving in the same direction and same speed as the train! LOL Very much enjoyed the Video, thanks for sharing. - BTW, My cat loved watching the video, she was so intent on it, we watched it twice.

Lionel did it right with the bluetooth lionchief system. I think everyone will eventually go to bluetooth-based wireless communication with the loco. DCC systems were just a (expensive) stopgap until technology caught up.

Will admit I'd like to have the glowing dilithium crystals hopper and the romulan ale tank car they made to go with this set, purely for giggles and because I'm a Trek fan. One car that'd be neat to see would be a vault car full of gold-pressed latinum or a model of the Enterprise inside, or a caboose with Q at the back in trainman garb and a lantern (perhaps with a black hole or galaxy inside).

Pretty sure the remote is a phaser, has the wide button with 2 over it as stickers (totally should have had those as actually buttons, for shame lionel) and above that the green is the sticker for the power setting of the phaser from TNG

I’ve had this set for a while since it came out. While I’d prefer the TOS it’s still a fun set. The horn should have been phaser or photon torpedo sounds but I’m sure the rights holder had a say. Too bad they didn’t hold onto the license to create a Borg boxcar and a shuttle bay caboose.

The add on cars include the Dilithium ore car, Romulan Ale car, tribble transport car. Boxcars for Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and Sisco. Also a Q, Picard, Riker chase car. A Star Trek speeder was also produced. That’s it. Lionel at least I’ve been told did not renew the license.

Ten Forward should be a pusher car and they need an unpowered engine for engineering. Missing a transporter room with a motorized glitter runner in it to appear to transport fore and aft. Have not thought about trains and designs since I was like 12. Surprised how expensive they are.

This set is no longer produced and Lionel no longer has the license from what I understand so you may have to do some work to get one. It came out about 18-24 months ago.

As a european Trekkie had this come in to my recommendations and got to say a neat set but not at this price point. If you are into brick building (like Lego) the best Star Trek merchandise and train sets right now would be coming from German brand BlueBrixx. Got some 40 Star Trek sets released in 2022 alone as well as a lineup of some over 200 locomotives and cars available.
