@zakelwe Actually it is necessary. Super is a qualifier, visible isn't necessarily super visible. It could mean low visibility, regular, or high. A qualifier was needed in this sentence to affirm that it is in fact a LOT more visible than otherwise without the white tips. The white tips dont just make it visible, they make it super visible. As a Californian who's been watching these videos of lionfish absolutely tearing up the Caribbean and Florida Keys, I'm curious as to why the lionfish don't react when one of them gets speared. Are they oblivious to the fact that they're moments away from being killed, or are they just fixated on the potential prey that they don't notice that they're being hunted?
@BryanSeayChess6 күн бұрын
Nothing attacks them because of the spines so they don’t really react because nothing ever attacks them.

Lion fish have a fear response of simply trying to angle their spines towards a potential predator. So they don't run from a threat rather they try to assume a defensive posture. When one is attacked, the other may try to simply fan their spines out in order to prevent an attack. While this works nearly entirely against any native predators in the Floridian and Caribbean waters. It's basically useless against a spear.

So the lionfish population is controlled in your area? Is this typical of the entire region or just your area since you have been clearing them for years?
@Lionfish_Extermination_Corp6 ай бұрын
It’s a constant thing we have to do all around the state. There are thousands of people doing this and the more people do it the better it helps everyone else as well because the eggs are spread so if you do a great job on the reef, the other reefs will also be helped. And Lionfish move around a lot as well so they will eventually move from other areas of the state and come into our grasp. it is a never-ending task, but thankfully, we can collect these fish for food instead of other fish which keeps their numbers down

So how does it work that fish can be native to one part of the ocean but invasive to another? All oceans are connected anyway, so why didn't a successful predator species spread before humans got around to moving them? Is there a band with temperatures they don't tolerate between where they're initially from and where OP is culling them?
@Vortex-7358Күн бұрын
They are native to the coasts of Australia and South East Asia. And could never cross the Atlantic/Pacific without human intervention. They are also from warmer waters and if they somehow managed to make that massive trip of there own they would need to go through colder waters.

@@0oshyg0oshy86 I was being genuine. And I asked, because I don't think the food chain will be "messed up" -- it'll simply change.
