Great video thank you. While lions are eating, they shift from being social animals to solitary creatures and display a reluctance to share their food. It seems that their love for food outweighs their love for everything else even their own offspring. Although they will fiercely protect their cubs, it is the cubs who bear the brunt of food scarcity and may ultimately perish due to starvation.

WOW! What a sight. They are very hungry. Amazing how they fight each other but, not to the point of really being aggressive. The little cubs were in there with the best of them. Thanks for the video. Take Care.

It's almost like the lions that first arrived communicated back to the others that the meal was small. You could see late comers noticeably slow their trot up to the kill.

MM - What was that the wild dogs of the Toulon pack killed in the Sand River altogether? I found it a bit hard to make out. Whatever the prey was, it didn't last very long between them. Although they don't, if the wild dogs fed on their kills very quietly, then maybe they won't attract the hyenas who often turn up at any kills uninvited and make off with their work. But as always, I'm sure the wild dogs weren't very pleased to see their annoying, naughty, and greedy arch rivals arrive not long after they killed what looked to be an impala ewe. That very unlucky nyala simply just didn't stand a chance with all 18 members of the large & ever-present Kambula pride all vying for their share of the tiny kill between them all. It looked rather impossible for the big lion pride to squeeze in next to each other. The main thing is that the Kambula pride can all always hunt again to make another bigger meal. But when the picture shows an adult lioness standing right next to the kill, it seemed as if the nyala was still struggling and kicking about a bit. She didn't look to have her very jaws on the throat of the prey to silence and suffocate it. But having said that, the kill just didn't have enough meat on to feed all of the members altogether successfully. It was quite surprising that the adult lioness managed to chase and catch the nimble and fleet footed prey by herself so easily. The hunt might have been successful, but it wasn't a very big one, unfortunately. Even if I don't know, I wonder if the five lionesses ever made an even bigger kill like a gnu or a very large buffalo that night. Hope to hear from you shortly. Robert 11.9.24

It's normally cheetahs who lose out to hyenas,as the cheetahs are often alone or a mother with a cub or two or sometimes a small coalition of males. But the cheetahs have to wait a bit of time to get their breath back before starting to eat, so the hyenas will take advantage of this and steal the kill. Also with cheetahs being generally solitary animals they tend not to fight as they can't run the risk of serious injury that could mean a death sentence if they're unable to hunt, so they'll just give up the kill and hunt again instead. But as the dogs will be in a large pack they'll much more likely to stand up to the hyenas, so unless it's most of the hyena clan or a lot of them, then the dogs can hold their own. Also the dogs eat fast on the spot so there's not often a lot for the hyenas to make off with as they'll devour the prey so quickly before going back to the den so they can regurgitate food for their pop-up so and their babysitters and any other weak and injured pack members that were unable to participate in the hunt

I love how lions get all crazy and violent when feeding on small prey, going even as far as unsheating their claws! It doesn't look like they're fully sinking them into the other lions bodies? Anyway, it seems as though they want to kill one another when eating, and then it's back to being "nice", hanging out, grooming and playing with one another. Amazing lions! ❤

Grazie. Italy

@@MalaMalaGameReserve lol. If you didn't care for the currency, then you wouldn't run the admittedly magnificent operation you do run. I recall running army patrol on foot near the kaftan in the Kruger Park, and the lions really didn't like us near their business. You guys with noisy diesels, always moving to get the best camera spot for your clients and internet footage, are a pain in the @ss for them. Not buying the PR efforts.

That one lion at 5:19 was clever. Best thing to do in this feeding frenzy for such a small prey is to grab your chuck of food and eat separately.
