MM - I don't know what the one remaining Northern Avoca male lion saw in the Clarendon Open area, but I'd assume he was either just surveying his surroundings or he was just watching that male ostrich from a safe distance. But on the whole, he also looked like he was just quietly resting up his energy there, minding his own business as well. Wasn't he? I'd say he looked very well and happy where he was, too. The two big Ndhzenga males also seemed very curious to investigate and get a closer look at the young hippo. They both appeared to be taunting it at the same time. I don't know if they were hoping for a kill or an easy dinner if they could get it out of the water and kill it. Though they weren't seen with any of the two prides, they do both have dominance over, but I'd say they look to be in good control of their growing prides as well as their big territory. They're in such great condition and health together as a very powerful and dominant duo. They had the young big hippo surrounded until about night fall when it was pitch dark. But I don't know if they killed it at all or not. Didn't they? It was quite a sight to see there, even if they felt they were just having a bit of fun together to keep themselves occupied for a few hours or so in the tall reeds of the old Sand River. Hope to hear from you shortly. Robert 15.9.24

Did those lions gave up later? Any way, nice footage 👍

They had actually managed to bring to ground when it was outside the water - but it managed to escape and ran into the water. They gave up eventually

You’re dazzling the lion while letting the hippo have an illuminated view. Get a night camera maybe, you might see more action.
