Lip Tie and Teeth: labial frenulum, gap in teeth, diastema, dental issues, gum recession

This video with Michelle Kelman, DDS, is about lip tie and teeth (labial frenulum). The tissue on the inside of the lip that attaches to the gum:
Can cause pain and/or difficulty with brushing, flossing and lead to higher risk for cavities
Can trap bits of food which also leads to higher risk for cavities
Can cause pain with movement of the lip
Dentists do not typically worry about a gap in the teeth as the gap usually resolves (and if it does not, can be treated later)
Almost never has any impact on speech
Lower lip (mandibular) frenulum can sometimes cause gum recession

My little baby girl (4 months old) has a lip tie goes across in the bottom of her upper gumnto the inside part. I was born with the same and I had a huge gap between my front teeth. Is it better to wait until her permanent teeth grow out or does it worth to have it lasered off at a very young age ? Thank you

My 2 year old son has to have dental work done tomorrow under general anesthesia..Im freaking out. He had a lip tie that I was unaware to until it got too late. 🥺 I nursed him till a little after his second birthday im thinking because of the lip tie he got severe teeth decay. I nursed 3 others for the same amount of time did nothing differently and they were fine. My poor baby. He also had multiple eating issues as an infant. I thought he was just colicky. Little did I know about lip ties even though he is my 4th and last child.

Ok, so my daughters dentist said she does see a lip tie but doesn’t want to do anything about it right now since her baby teeth already grew in with a gap. Do I wait for both of her adult teeth to grow out before getting it snipped or do I get it snipped before they start growing out? Just trying to save her from having a gap on adult teeth since her 2 top teeth have a gap now as a baby.

I have just removed my braces and the dentist is suggesting me to cut the maxillary labial frenulum. A tiny gap has started to form between my first two teeth, however I am afraid to take this surgery. This frenum is supposed to create stability for the upper lip, right? What are the side effects of frenectomy? What happens after I take the surgery?

I have gum recession on my lower front tooth and the periodontist recommended cutting the mandibular frenulum (the lower labial frenulum). Will cutting it make my lower lip loose and sag or flop? I'm worried because I saw that the purpose of the frenulum is to support the lips and mouth. I am 43.

I have frenulum the type 1. But I have a small in the back of the gum. I have teeth gap. I heard it's pretty common. But what happens to it if I get braces? Where the back part suppose to be? I'm 25.

Yes you can do braces but this is naturally then braces Braces is for other problems in teeths and took 1 year or ... But this took 10 days to close gaps you saved from braces . Sorry if im young btw im biology ❤😂

I'm not really clear from your comment on what actually happened...things usually heal without any problems with some reattachment.

Hello , are there any contraindications to cutting lip ties? I had both cut and my tongue tie. It feels like my lower lip is too loose now, like it is lacking support and just flopping out. I wish I had tried stretching more instead. Hopefully it's not bad and a myofunctional therapist will help me.

There are always potential risks to cutting anything. Though risks for lip and tongue ties are low. Good luck.

Getting it clipped does not change the position of the lips. It also won't change the gap at this point, either.
