I have this. Not painful for me personally but definitely can feel the beads underneath the skin. Surgery is the only way to rid this. No amount of diet, exercise, water intake will cure it. The cells itself are inflamed.

Im (52) i just found out about a week ago on a FB Cosmetic surgery group about this. I got up enough nerve to have my son in law take photos and i posted them. for years and years i felt like popye about the legs . I look deformed and I'm constantly massaging because of pain to keep going throughout the day. I asked if anyone knew a Dr to cut some of the bulk out and about 60 ladies kept saying looks like you have Lipedema and sent me links. I never even herd of it. I have lost 101 lbs and it has NOT budged.

Yes it can but you’d have to do lymphedema treatment first and have a discharge note to submit an appeal

​@@neenao7058Lymphedema as you stated is a different disease than Lipedema, the disease the doctor is talking about. And presently it is very difficult to have any help from insurance companies because most of them consider it cosmetic surgery of which it is not.

What is they swell mostly in calf and ankle? No pain but extra fat around that area. Doesn’t effect my foot at all. Do I have lipedema or lymphedema?

I have it in my legs and arms it is so painful i can’t walk far-- keeps me a wake at night --- i hate myself i am stage 4 but it’s all down to money to get treatment here in the UK i suffer with chronic anxiety and depression and have not been out for 17 months it also feels like a hot poker in my legs I truly feel i look like a monster.

😭 I feel your pain. I have it too. It definitely causes depression 😔. I'm praying for you love. I am too without the money to get proper treatment but I struggle with doctors who just don't know enough about it. I did find a specialist in NYC where I live but haven't gotten the time to get a consultation mostly because I'm a single mom and use my days off for daughter. Hopefully soon.

It is a disease, why isn't it covered in UK? The weight could affect your cardiac system as well as wht Dr Su has mentioned, knees and hips later

the top of my body has the same dimensions as a fashion model. I know this because I purchased a dress form in my size and it happens to be the size that most fashion clothes are sized on. The other half of my body is basically tree trunk legs. fat between my knees. Large cylinder shaped ankles. It makes me cry. I have such a great body and I exercise and I eat right and my legs are just doughy and I can't wear shorts. I'm seriously considering liposuction. I don't know what else to do. When I'm on my. my legs feel like they're on fire and my legs are even more swollen. I bruise easily. I think it's time for me to do something about this. I just really hope it's covered by insurance. but if not, I'll pay out of pocket. 44 years old and I have never worn shorts in public.
