Clearly you are one of the best instructors I've seen in teaching as you explain as well as visually show! You are very relatable and easy to follow. You take the time as you instruct with the wet on wet technique using the liquid clear. I know now how to finally use and apply each phase of my paintings using this tutorial as a guide. Finally I understand! Thank you!!

Hey pal! Thank you so much and I’m glad I could help out. I’ll never forget what it was like to be a beginner myself so I always try to keep that in mind for others who want to learn. But I appreciate you and your feedback. Thanks again. And as always, if there is something that I’m not clear about in any of my videos, please don’t hesitate to comment and ask and I will do my best to explain further. 🍻

I did a basic knock off of this painting 2-3 months ago. My liquid clear is home brewed, I use linseed oil, a little stand oil in that and cut it maybe 1/4 part with odorless mineral spirits. Works fine for me. Future blends I plan to use use odorless turpenoid in, only because that product from Weber is indeed fully odorless. I clean my brushes in that Weber Odorless Turpenoid as well now. I've also used Gamblin solvent free gel as a clear base, but mostly on white canvas when I want wet on wet with full color retention. Thanks for the video !!
@Kennysgreasypaint9 ай бұрын
I would love to try that! And I still have yet to try the Gamblin clear gel. Very informative, thank you 👍
@davidg.50769 ай бұрын
@@Kennysgreasypaint The Gamblin solvent free gel used as the liquid clear base has a bit more tack to it than actual liquid clear. But I use mostly Gamblin paints and I just had to try it. It works well, helps blending and retains color saturation. It takes a bit of scrubbing in to apply , then a light wipe with a shop towel. You don't want a thick layer, it's intended to mix into paint up to something like 25%.
@Kennysgreasypaint9 ай бұрын
@@davidg.5076 I also find with Liquid clear, no matter how thin I apply and leave that stuff on, I have to lay my canvas down off the easel for it to dry without any colors “dripping”. Do you find that with the Gamblin gel? I know either way that’s how you should always lay your paintings to dry anyway
@davidg.50769 ай бұрын
No, I got no drips or runs. I did a tree scene by a stream with water features and brush and grass. This was painted over 3 days or so with the gel as the base. It just lived on my easel. The painting tacked up before I got the highlights on but they still got on there. Two of the leaves on the tree had some paint shift after that, in the stems I had painted in with a palette knife. But minor compared with all the paint used that didn't move through out the rest of the scene. My suggestion is just get the small tube of solvent free gel to try it out. It may not be for every painting. But too, it's not a bad medium to use in your paint. Edit: I just wanted to add, that the only time I got any tracking or runs even with my home brew liquid clear was before I added in the stand oil. In fact it's why I added in the stand oil. The stand oil I use is Windsor Newton Artisan stand oil, which dries a little bit faster than their traditional stand oil. It's thicker than straight linseed, thus the bit of mineral spirits. IDK,, it seems to be a good working blend.

Nice video! What would happen if we try this on a white cannvass an liquid white, would the colors be just lighter or would it be absolutelly ruined (happy complete accident)?
@Kennysgreasypaint3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! So imagine, taking a color like phthalo blue for your sky. There is no liquid white to instantly give it that light blue value you get. Which is not wrong, just more of a heads up. But maybe if you’re doing a red sky with the sun going down after a hot day in the tropics or African landscape, liquid clear might be the better way to go. So it really just depends on the painting you’re trying to go for. But in my opinion, if you tried this specific painting in my video with a white canvas, I can guarantee it won’t look like a night time painting.

I have a question. What exactly is Shop towels? I live in Spain and would like to know what to look for?
@Kennysgreasypaint9 ай бұрын
Hey, Vicky! Always wanted to visit Spain, so hopefully someday. But thank you so much for the support I really appreciate you. As for shop towels, they are the blue paper towels I use in my videos. Granted I’ve never been to Spain, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t have them there in your hardware stores. But they work better because they’re made for helping cleaning up paint of all mediums. Better so than regular white paper towels. If you have trouble finding them, ask a professional contractor or house painter where you can get them. Otherwise I’d say try the paint section in your local hardware store. Please let me know if you find them, it would be good for me to know which countries have them. Thanks again so much!

Can liquid clear be used with acrylic paints
@Kennysgreasypaint8 ай бұрын
Hey, Sarah. Great question! So since the clear is an oil based medium, it will only work with other oil pigments. Unfortunately, acrylics are water based and wouldn’t mix well with the liquid clear. However there are water based mediums made to mix with acrylic paints, I’m just not sure of what those products are called but they exist.

Be sure you wipe off the excess liquid clear. I just taught a class and forgot to do that, and some of the paintings "rained" and dripped. It was heartbreaking!
