Thank you Solar! That means the world to me. It just so happens that I already have a course! I just launched it this summer. I decided to create an online course because I think I can reach more people that way, it's more convenient and I know that I can teach the material in a way that will give you confidence even though it's not an in-person experience. Please check it out on my website therockstarbargirl.com. Definitely check it out soon because right now the entire course is 50% off for my back-to-school sale. The course includes 6 lessons, 2 bonus lessons, quizzes, assignments, flashcard PDFs, downloads, a course completion certificate AND my RockStar BarKit (16 piece custom bar kit with carrying bag) for FREE. Two weeks ago I was a busboy at a restaurant, and my manager asked me to become a bartender. Not only have I never bartended before, but I’ve never even had a drink before. I knew absolutely nothing about alcohol. I had only five training shifts before working on my own, and I could not have done that without you. Don’t underestimate the influence you have had on thousands of people, whether they want to just learn more about alcohol or how to to bartend. My full-time job is a college professor, and I would stack your teaching abilities up with any of my colleagues. Keep up the great work you do.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, it has helped SO much! I know this video is over five years old but it is so relevant to me right now. I just have to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. You are so knowledgeable and such a good teacher. I have been wanting to try bartending for a while now but I've always scared myself out of it because I have no experience in the service industry. I have had a "secure office job" for almost seven years which was so boring but now I'm unemployed and trying to do something that excites me. I'm definitely going to check out more of your videos and hopefully it will push me to FINALLY give bartending a shot! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge! 🙏

Hey Tonya, thank you so much for watching. What's holding you back!? There's no time like the present. This is a great industry, especially if you have the passion and dedication it takes to get started. I want you to watch this video of mine where I deliver a message to help every new or wanna be bartender understand why they can start bartending today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6GXq3mEi6xpd80 The next thing I want you to do is head to my website therockstarbargirl.com and join the mailing list to get your free 40 page e-Book. It gives a thorough overview of all of the topics that I cover in my full online course. If you don't have prior experience, you will want to get yourself a little education to give yourself a fighting shot of getting employed. And if you don't have the money or the time for bartending school, my online course will give you everything you need (including your own bar tools) to go out there and get a rockstar bartending job. You got this! Thank you again!

RockstarBarGirl Thank you so much for all the information! I will definitely check out the video and your website. I've always had an issue with self doubt and I always end up talking myself out of doing something because I'm afraid of failure. However, I'm kind of at the point where my back is against the wall and I'm not really getting interviewed for the jobs that I have experience doing so why not try something new? I think it's a blessing in disguise that I'm not getting those boring office jobs because it's forcing me out of my comfort zone. I really appreciate your encouragement!

My first time behind the bar, i was 19 and had an amazing trainer. Asking whoever is training you about liquor you haven't seen is completely dependent on the bar you work in. My bar is pretty slow (Returning serviceman's bar) so i had a lot of time to just chat with my trainer about different liquors and what he commonly uses them in. If your bar is super busy, then of course just read the labels, but if your place is slower and you get along with your trainer then asking them about their opinions of new liquor is a great way to learn very fast. Also, depending on your bar, you might have a lot of time to learn, it took me 5 months before I needed to make anything that wasn't a 1) gin and tonic, 2) rum and coke, or 3) Vodka bitter lemonade. This let me be well prepared for when i DID have to make something other than those, as i had plenty of time to research. Number one priority (in my bar) is pouring a tap beer correctly and using the correct glass/jug, so your number one priority on your first day is to see what are the most common drinks and perfect that before worrying about learning 50 different drinks.

I absolutely loved this video, it was very helpful for understanding everything on a base level! I do have a question about the Jack Daniels classification though. To my understanding, there is a federal classification for whiskeys and bourbons do not explicitly have to be from Kentucky. While there are a number of prerequisites to be considered a bourbon, one of the biggest is that it must have a mash of at least 51% corn (just like how Rye Whiskey has to have a mash of at least 51% Rye). Jack Daniels meets all of these prerequisites and is federally classified as a bourbon. However, they like to market themselves as Tennessee Whiskey so that they can portray themselves as being above bourbon. I think many people might call it an American whiskey, a sour mash, etc. but I don't think it is wrong to call it a bourbon. In fact, I think it technically is one. I am pretty new to this stuff, so I could definitely be wrong. I would love to hear what you think about its classification (:

Steph Bby Flashcards! They are truly the best. Put the name of the drink on one side and on the back put the glass, recipe and garnish. Not everyone is a good trainer. Sometimes you have kind of have to train yourself. In this biz we call it sink or swim. Dont stress it. Stay friendly, let your guests know you're new, and call the manager if you have any serious questions or issues. Otherwise just do your best. You're already a rockstar!

RockstarBarGirl Just stating pure facts! I am a little embarrassed to say this but I actually saved this video to my ‘watch later’ about a year ago when I was getting back into bartending after being out of the game for a wee bit lol. I was deleting videos that were saved that I had watched & watching the videos that I hadn’t yet watched. Hence how I ended up getting to see your video lol. I’m so glad that you are a teacher, created an online course & share your content with us as this is truly a gift that you were blessed with! ❤️ I most definitely will be checking out your online course & be telling all my fellow bartenders out there to check you out. As soon as all of this craziness is over with the world rn & I get back to work, I’ll definitely be purchasing your online courses! I’ve been in this industry for about twenty years on & off & have been taught by many (& have taught many)..... but I’ll say that this is the first time that I’ve EVER been so captivated & retained all the information that I was learning. Not only will this broaden my knowledge on the subject but I believe that your lessons will help me to keep my trainees engaged 😁 I really can’t thank you ENOUGH!! I hope that you continue to keep posting your videos & growing your channel. As soon as I’m back to work in a few weeks (I pray ) & getting back to making $ than I’ll start my classes. I wish you nothing but success & happiness babe! 💕 Thank you ☺️

What are your typical well alcohols? (The cheap stuff.) And when do you know when to use the cheap stuff?
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 6 жыл бұрын
Hey St. King. Great question! So "well" brands will vary from place to place. The term "well" just means the least expensive spirits in the house, usually used when no specific brand is preferred by the customer or needed for drink. So what brands qualify as "well" in any given bar will depend on the bar. In a nightclub in nyc the "well" might be what other places consider premium. The club's cheapest vodka that they use for everything might be Grey Goose and therefore the "well" brand vodka at that club is Grey Goose. Where as Grey Goose might be the most expensive vodka option. Generally speaking around nyc you will see inexpensive names like Alexi, Barton, Pueblo Viejo on the well. As for when to use them: the answer is NEVER! lol. Bartending is about driving sales above all else, so Always Be Upselling! You should always be offering premium priced spirits to your guests. If someone asks for a vodka soda, never just grab what's on your well. As the guest if they'd like the Grey Goose. They will almost always accept your recommendation and boom you just turned an $8 drink into $14 purchase. The more the bill, the higher the tip (hopefully) so upselling is key. And don't worry about the morality of intentionally trying to get someone to spend more. Your guests are adults. If they don't have the money, they'll politely ask for well. Make sure to check out my video on Upselling and thanks for watching!!

Hi, your video is quite helpful! Thanks! But , as a beginner, May I ask you why didn't you mention Rye Whisky.
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Caleb, thanks for watching and for your question. Rye is not covered in this video for two reasons: 1) I wanted to keep it simple and only talk about whiskeys that fell in the BASIC system, and 2) at the time of making the video, rye was not very popular in bars in NYC and, therefore not a whiskey I felt a new bartender was likely to work with. You would usually only see them in bars that had very large whiskey selections. But since this video was filmed, the craft cocktail boom has made rye more popular and if I were to make this video over, I would include it. Thanks for pointing it out!

I’m confused, Seagrams 7 is American but Seagrams VO is Canadian? How often do you get questions about the history and makings of alcohol? Thank you so much for all your videos! Love them all!
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 6 жыл бұрын
Yeeaaa it's kind of a crazy history. Seagram's used to be a powerhouse whiskey company, but when the company failed it got divided into pieces but three huge companies coco cola, pernod ricard and diageo. Diageo distills Seagram's VO still under the Seagram's name and they make it in Quebec, Canada. And not a lot. You get more questions the more craft or spirit-specific your bar is. I used to bartender at a rum hall, so of course, I was asked all kinds of questions about the 50-100 rums carried there. But otherwise, not often. Everyone has google nowadays. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!!

Every video is getting a thumbs up . Your so cute and sweet ! Also , pinnacle does have many flavors and cherry is the worst like cough medicine and nasty whip cream or fruit loops 😖. Gin is for old people , my grandpa drink that .

LMAO I love this comment. Thank you so much for the compliment. I am really glad you are liking the videos! Flavored vodka in general is pretty terrible to me. And I can see what you're saying about gin lol. But i invite you to try some gin cocktails because as a mixer its actually really good, IMHO. Thank you for watching!

An educated bartender should know that Bourbon Whiskey has nothing to do with Bourbon County but with the grain it is made of (51% corn) and can be produced anywhere in the US. Jack Daniels feature is not the sour mash (a lot of Bourbons have a sour mash recipe as well) but the fact that it's a Tennessee Whiskey (which is technically a Bourbon which is additionally filtered by charcoal) and Fireball isn't a whiskey at all but a whiskey liqueur (not a liquor). Almost anything wrong on American whiskeys...
