Hi there, Liron here!
Today the Paint Show is back! And we’ll be reviewing paints by Rosa Gallery Watercolor.
This brand is actually based in Ukraine, and I’ve been in contact with Beáta, who sells them in Israel.
There seem to be multiple lines of watercolors, with the Gallery line being the professional grade.
I asked for these specific paints:
1. Black Grape
2. Raw Sienna
3. Cobalt Turquoise
4. Turquoise
My impression of these is that they’re great. Handle well, highly saturated, should be lightfast, a nice combination of different opacities.
Would recommend giving these a try if you have good access to them in decent prices.
So here are some links:

Let me know if you end up buying some, and hope you enjoy this one 😊🙏🏼

I just left a comment..I won’t write a book, but I am purchasing your 12 set of single pigments tomorrow..added a pan of the cobalt turquoise because of this video 😊. I got back into art at my late Son’s prodding over 8 years ago…but in a different medium than I’d ever done before; Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting. (Complete with an 86yo retired art and history professor who had taught here in the US for 30+ years before retiring back to Chengdu). After my son died suddenly a little over a year ago, and with my own health..and failing vision issues; my best friend here, (also a retired art professor and married to a wonderful man from Ukraine), and my eldest daughter, (a singer/songwriter/musician/graphic artist and acrylic painter)-they both wanted to learn traditional chinese painting and my dear friend Liz suggested we find ways to merge and combine western and eastern….then my new Chinese tutor (who teaches in Europe) as well as another Laoshi (teacher) in China, asked if I had tried any western paints on Xuan paper. Longer story short; the quality of traditional paints has gone way down in recent years..,more than likely because the companies have branched out into more Western paints, gouache, WC, oil and acrylic…I just noticed a few days ago they (Marie’s) has even more now on alibaba and other sites including pencils, oil and chalk pastels along with accessories. 8 years ago, they had only the traditional, one pigment, natural paints. I still have some from my first set…and bought a new set for my daughter a few months ago..the difference is shocking. It’s causing a BIT of backlash with Chinese artists and professors..they no longer feel comfortable recommending Marie’s for students..and outside of China, they are recommending Kuratake (blasphemy on the mainland..they take their “intangible cultural heritage” materials VERY seriously. Yes, we still have our paint chips, but even they seem to be lower quality than just 5 years ago. SO, I became, as Liz calls me, a “mad scientist”…in between hospital visits. I was in medical research before my health nose-dived…so I traded my microscope and Petri dishes for pigments and traditional mediums (mingjiao -a “glue” made from fish bones; this is also in Kuratake paints which allows them to be used on Xuan OR western papers..it’s called something else in Japanese..and peach sap gum, similar to gum Arabic.). The ONLY western paints I’ve gotten to “behave” without the addition of another medium is QOR, I assume because of its unique binder. HOWEVER, there’s other issues with them, including they can’t really be wet-mounted. (Yes, I know about dry-mounting but after far too much money spent..us “older” ladies gave up trying..also, destroyed paintings & calligraphy in our attempts. I’ll let more adept young people with more money deal with it. A fixed income and silicone sheets don’t jive well 😂) I HAVE had luck with some single-pigmented handmade paints. All I do is add some mingjiao, a little of the peach sap gum, to the brush water-voila! They can be used on Xuan paper..but, they aren’t practical for my friends overseas. Dr Chen started making his own, even TRIED to send me a very light gray-brown, granulating, made with coral, abalone shells and just a bit of real Pearl. Unfortunately..US Customs destroyed it. I now have a vial of dark pink paint chips..why they put the reagent into the vial instead of taking some out..is beyond me. I guess white, slightly sparkling powder and chips rang too many alarm bells. 🤷🏼‍♀️. I chatted with him a few nights ago and he said he just doesn’t have the time or strength to keep trying to make quality paints for his students. Which brings me to your paints. For some reason even Liz was unaware that your paints contain only pigment and GA. This makes them PERFECT for what we’re trying to do. I don’t know what your market is right now in China; but if I can get this to work and stand up to wet mounting, which it should, (we believe the very thing that made QOR compatible with Xuan, also was the cause of the bleeding and smearing during mounting); you might have a new market open..unless, of course, the very long-standing traditional company I mentioned gets its act together. I was watching the new years gala last weekend with my tutor-they had a 3-4 minute segment on “Traditional Chinese Colors”..with poetry about each color, minerals and painting. (It was performed in a dance..but not sure how to explain the special effects except it looked like the dancers were “painting” the screen behind them..but, it was more 3D..like I said, hard to explain, but I’m sure it’s here on YT). My tutor and I said almost simultaneously, “do you think they are….?” Like I said, the terrible quality right now, famous artists openly using some western paints…it’s causing a stir. Liz said I should start my own company and make my own paints…too old and too sick 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 SO, I’m VERY excited to try yours! AND, if they work like I think they will…I’ll put my lab coat away and actually start doing some paintings! 😊. Tu Nián Kuále! 🐰🥳 兔年快乐!🐇🧧 (Happy Year of the Rabbit!)

I love ROSA watercolors. Very little to no drying shift. I can only get the pans and have three sets. Love their burnt sienna. The pans rewet so easily and pigment load is insanely good on the whole. A very enjoyable paint to work with. Reacts to salt really well too. Thanks Liron. Enjoy!

I have about 30 colors from Rosa Gallery (Pans and Tubes) and they are all very very saturated and easy to rewet. I miss granulation in colors that'd typically granulate (so perfect for people who dislike granulating colors). RG has very vibrant quinacridones!

Hi Liron, thanks for your videos! I learned much from them when I started painting with watercolors again a few years ago, even if I paint mainly in abstract style. Concerning the Siena / Yellow ochre: have you tried Veronese yellow ochre (also called Italian gold ochre/Venetian yellow) or Burgundy yellow ochre? I can imagine you might like those. The Burgundy yellow is a very warm yellow, while the Veronese yellow is lighter. Persian yellow ochre is also something to consider. Somewhere between ochre and Siena, I guess. I don`t know if you can get those as pre made colors, but you could make your own colors easily from the raw pigments and watercolor binder (takes only 5 min. with these earth pigments). Available from many places. One very good shop is located in Italy. Kremer Pigmente in Germany has all kinds of pigments also, and waterolor binders and everything you need for color making. There are also French online shops selling all kinds of ochres, for example. I wasn`t able to post the comment, maybe because I had links added. Removed them now. Can send the links separtaley if you are interested. Just an idea.
