LIRR Floral Park AM Rush Hour. 9/19/24

I did some more early rising today to go to another very busy spot on the Main Line. Floral Park is junction of Hempstead Branch and the Main Line and sees tons of action. Multi trains seen at once. We see M3’s/ M7’s (with their stunning traction motor echoes)/M9’s/DE30’s/DM30’s. We spend a frantic 3 hours here. Not quite all trains were seem but what was seen was identified. With the machine guns staccato of passing trains, identifying the trains became quite difficult. I thank all the help that I received in doing so. At the very end of this video you will see the FRA inspection train westbound at Islip.

I like the details of that platform that was rarely used before the Grand Central Opening... I remember that one specific am service from East Willinston to Penn made ALL stops including Floral Park, QV and Hollis lol

My late older brother Bob had a summer job in early 60's that helped build the elevated Floral Park.. Thought about that for years when riding the train from Garden City... I guess he made more money doing that then going into our dad's family business in East NY where he eventually worked for many years with other family members...

Loving these AM videos. Wonder when the LIRR will rehabilitate Floral Park station. Looks past due for a makeover. 20:07 M3s! After the M3s retire, I wonder if the LIRR will have enough equipment for rush hour into/out of Grand Central, Penn and Atlantic Terminal. 21:45/22:03 and 23:22/23:55 M7 echo! 38:11 😂 Yeah, apart from railfans and some employees of the railroad, these are not loved by many commuters. 38:50 Well that answers my question about LIRR having enough equipment when the M3s retire. 42:50 Definitely a nice surprise ending there.

Years ago there was a branch that started between Floral Park and New Hyde Park, I guess it was discontinued in the 60s 'Creedmore I think it was called, Isn't there a piece of structure that still stands attached to the main line?

It's not attached anymore. You can see the bridge on Plainfield Ave, but it's been walled off from the right of way

Tim, did you see my comment that Amtrak is thinking of running a train to Ronkonkoma and I was inquiring to you about how you think do you think they’re gonna do it in tandem with the MTA in the Long Island railroad or do you think they’re going to use Amtrak equipment?

Mainly MU’s. Prefer mix or diesels.

Correct me if I am wrong Tim but don’t the Hempstead trains stop at Bellerose before crossing over to make Elmont and Queens Village? That stop may make it slightly easier to sequence the Westbound Hempstead branch traffic back into the Main Line. Also now that all the M9s are on the property, how much longer are the M3s going to stick around? Pretty soon someone may have to go bug Conductor Paul on Metro-North to still ride one.

They will be around a few more more years until they get the next order of M9’s. Supposedly a contract has been made to supply those cars.
