I remember that Herricks Rd crossing. Great footage here. I miss those old, growling diesels. The LIRR diesel fleet was like a rolling museum. Most of the equipment has been either sold or scrapped.

Somehow they just took a few old M-3's back into service as delays with the newest fleet are really bad!

Brings back so many good memories of riding the train into work from the Oyster Bay line. I'd ride in the outer vestibule of the last car as the train was all packed and stuffy. I'd listen to that GP38 hum and sing as it pushed the train along, dancing at the coupler at the rails many bumps and twists. The sound of the power of that main motor was impressive only feet away. Sure it was cold, it was dirty and noisy, but I'd rather be out there than stuck inside those dirty, stuffy coaches.

Glad to see that some older footage has appeared. I remember the platforms at Mineola ended shorter than they are now... Mineola looks soooo... different.

Wait until the 3rd track goes in along with the new building where the Citibank was. It will be like a whole new station. It will be barely recognizable, and no more tower.

7:47 that M1 applies the emergency brakes to stop. You can hear the air blow and it just stops on a dime.

@phillyslasher It was a different World back then, for sure. Now whenever I dump the train above ~15 mph I get a call from a Road Foreman a few days later asking what happened.

For a night shot using a VHS video camera, this looks very good. I went to Hofstra U for two years. Minneola was the go-to station (vs. Hempstead). Thanx for the memories.

My family lived along the Glen Head station. Twice a year, fires would be on the tracks and woods from passengers discarding lit cigarettes from the windows. I walked THESE tracks from Greenvale to Oyster bay as a kid weekly..find $ in phone booths, tracks, etc. .
