There is such a huge difference between singers with great voices, which are really a dime a dozen. and then there are vocalists whose voices are like musical instruments, whose user finds a way to take that vocal ability to a new level. That is Lisa Fischer.

Lisa Fischer can sing virtually all genres----all with breathtaking interpretations and stunning vocals covering deep lows and soaring highs. She has a powerhouse voice for those songs that require it, yet an ability to use a quiet sophistication to build into certain songs and then pour out her talent into breathtaking finales. And to top it off, Lisa is a true performer who commands the stage and draws in her crowd with her voice, physical movement and expressions perfectly matched with her song renditions.

I'm also a lover and respecter of the Vocal Trinity of Whitney, Mariah and Celine esp Whitney. However, having seen Lisa Fischer in concert back in the 1980's as Luther Vandross' back up singer, I've always thought it should be renamed the Vocal Quartet with Lisa's inclusion.

Whitney Houston could've been this good at this age had she lived clean and got classical training.
@sylviamaua7453 жыл бұрын
@@Sttephy30 Whitney Houston didn't need Classical Training. She already had IT aged 19. She was trained by her mother, Cissy Houston, a Gospel Music legend and former member of The Sweet Inspirations who sang with Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin and on all of Luther Vandross' albums. Unfortunately, Whitney Houston was a heavy smoker and had other issues which contributed to her losing her singing voice.

Dido’s Lament reveals a talent and skill I’ve never encountered before. Lisa uses both jazz and classical tecnique seemlessly in one song and it works. Shocking maybe to both jazz and classical purists but astonishinly effective. We can only hope, given the recording industry appears to pretend she doesn’t exist, that she takes on vocal pupils in her retirement.

Yes! Hope many students follow her inspirations........
@EnbyTweenUs4 жыл бұрын
I've seen your comments on a few videos, and I must say that although they acknowledge her talents in true ways, the way you see & describe her talent - continually framing it in the classical - is really only a singular description. As one of THE most practiced, Grammy winning vocalists in popular music (primarily), your desire to continually seat her in styles you believe have more prestige or 'codified technique,' actually does her talent and career path a disservice. She has one, amazing vocal instrument that is incredibly versatile. You might try to credit her stint in classical training for that, but its giving credit where credit isn't due. Music existed before theory; classical music isn't the center of human vocal instrumentation. Her mastery across styles is the talent, not the way she applies the classical technique to those other styles. That assessment is merely your opinion.

She has no ‘classical technique’ to be honest. She is singing a ‘classical European’ piece using R&B and Jazz styling. She is making it her own. But that is all.
