Lisa Fischer is amazing! I'm so glad I saw the documentary "20ft from Stardom". I remember hearing Lisa's music back in the day. What a treat to revisit such an artist. Use to be one of the requirements to perform a song was that you actually "could" sing and live no less. Every year the Grammys come and they just hand out awards, cause someone has to win. Sadly, this makes that talent pool weak. Lisa Fischer won a Grammy award tying with Patti Labelle (just so happens Lisa also sang back up on Patti's song as well, mind blowing). Who else was in Lisa's category? Aretha Franklin & Gladys Knight, now that is some legendary singers (Vanessa Williams was included in that group, not the same league. Sorry girl. Loved Ugly Betty.) I've probably gone on too long but how many people can say Chaka Khan (another legend) gave props on their KZbin video? Love you Lisa, your spirit shines through.

I think Lisa is incredibly talented, but the title of this song did not sit right in my spirit even though she sings it expertly. So I went & looked it up & discovered that Damballa is VooDoo & to That I say THE BLOOD OF JESUS 🙏❤️🔥 For me The Love of Christ is the greatest power. So although I Love Lisa & definitely will pray for her I can't listen to this song. Even witchcraft in song has a price, but THE ETERNAL LOVE OF CHRIST IS FREE. I pray that God would reveal himself to this incredible artist.

The orchestra is grand. It's unfortunate however, that whoever did the mixing wouldn't allow the Lisa's voice to be heard above the orchestral thunder. Generally, when there's a soloist with an orchestra (particularly one with as much talent as Lisa has), the soloist is given at least some prominence. What I could hear of her singing was magnificent as usual. But I was disappointed that the sound engineer allowed her voice to be drowned out. I wonder if it was the same live.

Yes. What a pity. I would love to have bought a copy of this concert, if available, but the sound on Lisa's mike is just too low. Sensational performances/

@Neferaten3 жыл бұрын
Umm. You can’t necessarily compare the two as if they might be equal in idea and performance. The Exuma recording has a different feeling….a different space and time, a different vibe. Lisa Fischer blew this out of the water! She PERFORMED this song. Brought it NEW life with a range of emotion and color that resonates with a certain nuance that is unique. This was Cinematic!! She made it hers for the time she was on stage. So , yes. The Exuma recording or performance may be great. But in my opinion, you’re comparing two vibrations that are in two different arenas even though the song is the same, the SPIRIT of the performances are on a different continuum.
@akkoakk49663 жыл бұрын
Yes, Exuma brings the pain and anger this song deserves in his original version.
@n.w.2579 Жыл бұрын
This is a great version of a great song, but I do prefer both Exuma's original and Nina's hauntingly spare cover version. I think the orchestral arrangement makes it feel too much like a musical.
