something i took away from it was that it was also a critique of romanticization, as the step sister’s reaction to her mothers disappearance, alongside her shock and horror after the “cool” guy was murdered (and even when lisa tried to comfort her in the car) was a glimpse at the reality of the situation and how it’s not just a campy fun world, it’s real consequences.

Oh my god we had the same comment regarding the reactions of the cast! Only Taffy was reacting realistically 🤣 But i thought maybe that was a director’s/actor’s choice. Lisa and the monster have a different reality thus not reacting the same way as Taffy does. You can see in Taffy’s frames the heaviness and the change of tone but when we go back to Lisa’s frames it’s all colorful and beautiful and camp!
@nicholetaylor756311 ай бұрын
To be honest, I found Lisa Frankenstein is similar to Jennifer's Body. Jennifer's Body and Lisa Frankenstein both use fashion to show the descent into evil. With Lisa becoming more outlandish but girly with her fashion choices when she becomes evil and same with Jennifer Check when her outfits become girlier it shows her descent into evil. There is a close relationship between two female characters like Needy and Jennifer with Lisa and Taffy. The roles of who turns evil is reversed. Both the kills in Lisa Frankenstein and in Jennifer's Body are done in the sake of the plot, each kill is intentional while in a film like Friday the 13th the kills are sporadic and random. They also both have plots that have deal with SA. I can see how people do not think they are like one another but, to me, they are pretty similar.

Since you mentioned there were no callbacks to Jennifer’s Body as far as you were aware, there is one that I noticed that might be a bit of a stretch, but both movies featured a different cover of I Can See Clearly Now - in Lisa Frankenstein during her ~trip~ and in Jennifer’s body when Kyle Gallner was driving to his fate.

I really love the movie, it's got a special place in my heart- I'm obsessed. And when I saw the SA scene, all I could think of is how realistic it is. I was a teenager in the 80s, and that kind of thing happened all the goddamn time. It was a lighter version of what happened more often than I care to recall, sometimes to guys, too, and I was glad they included it, and as they did, because it was so common for the era, and they did it in a way that was not as upsetting as it could have been. I often find SA scenes totally unnecessary, this one was different. I'm sure there are people who never experienced it in the era, and I'm happy for them. That said, there are a couple friends I've known since the 80s whom I'd have to warn... because their SA happened at parties in much the same way.

My movie review will be up by tonight as one of the original kids behind this production, discussing the real life themes and stuff that was going on at the time, & some of the techniques used in the horror comedy genre, and music choices and why we chose these songs and such. Some of the symbolism used and the funny stories behind some of the funny moments and jokes. One scene had me busting up laughing for 20 minutes. Such a great film. Worthy of some awards. Keep in mind kids did this.

Also I applaud you for saying it’s not your typical type of movie tastes in your review. Now I gotta watch that other movie you mentioned 😉

Just found your channel and I think your critiques are totally valid when seeing it as a film not in your fave genres. I personally adored it and found it be a really good retelling of the original story with callbacks to early Tim Burton in the colour and character action choices (think Edward Scissorhands) and using specifically nostalgia goggles of the late 80s and early 90s from the perspective of kids too young to solidly remember those time periods WITHOUT said nostalgia goggles. I loved getting to watch the Mary Shelley story beats with ridiculous twists and then needing to explain why it worked to those I watched it with, too lol. I'm loving your channel so far from the other vids ive watched too. Totally subbing!

As a person who was a child in the 80s, I'm finding more and more ridiculousness in how the 80s are portrayed. SO much of it looks like a parody of Parker Lewis Can't Lose sets, which itself was a west coast parody of the very late 80s. So I feel you as far as 80s exhaustion goes.
@DearandDeparted11 ай бұрын
I loved Lisa Frankenstein so much! I'm not usually one for campy horror comedies, but this one was different. I loved the late 80s vibes, genuinely what it was like in the late 80s, not campy 80s..the soundtrack was phenomenal, and the comedy wasn 't over the top in my opinion. My favorite part was Lisa's dream sequence which you didn't mention! I thought it was beautifully shot, artsy without being annoying, and it totally gave smashing pumpkins tonight tonight music video vibes. I went in to this movie not expecting too much, and came out 5/5 stars for me :)

I’m not sure if this movie was marketed as a limited release everywhere. Here in LA it was advertised as in theater’s February 9th only so I figured I would miss it but it ended up being in theaters still come valentine’s day and it was a great holiday theater experience. I thought it was beautifully paced, had a simple good story line and the actors really brought it together regardless how important the part. I loved the casting for the dad. I could see this movie having the potential of being the next hocus pocus as a yearly holiday cult classic.

Love this video!! I loved this movie so much I went back to watch it with my girlfriend and we casual-cosplayed the main couple. I liked the movie for many reasons but the main ones were the way both Lisa and The Creature are relatable in a similar way to how Lydia Deetz is (for me it's the whole being seen as weird but then finding someone who gets you), the camp and soundtrack, and of course the multiple references to horror and post-punk. I have a similar taste to yours except I love 80s camp/dark comedy. I was the target audience (I rewatch Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, RHPS, and Corpse Bride a lot) so I knew I would love it ever since the first trailer came out. Also, I totally agree on wanting 2000's period pieces, although they make me feel old.
@calebleland83909 ай бұрын
I just watched it, and honestly, I had a lot of fun with it.. I only had a few notes, but they're nitpicky. I thought the SA at the party was telegraphed. Lisa gets drugged and something bad is going to happen. So glad that creep got what was coming to him. But I did feel uncomfortable at that, and that it really wasn't needed, outside of setting up future events. Second, the trailer left me thinking that she and The Creature (as named in the closed captioning) were going to be a couple from his resurrection onward. But when they did come together, I smiled. Finally, I could have used more gore, but this is more the gore hound in me. I did appreciate how they ended it. You could certainly use this as a jumping off point for a sequel, or leave it and the ending would be satisfying. Overall, I really liked it, I had fun with it, and who knows? Maybe after another couple of viewings I'll love it I, too gave it a 3.5 out of 5 possible chainsaws.

I actually really wanted to see this one in theaters, but just missed the opportunity to do so. I just got to watch it on Prime the other day and actually really liked it a lot! I, too, was a bit taken aback by the SA scene, and just audibly called out “whoa! Dude! Not cool!” But, yeah, very effective at making me hate the character who did that. I felt the movie in general was a big sigh of relief, though for the very different reason that I actually am the target audience, and the movie was done very well, in my opinion. I thought the dark humour was well-executed, and I was a little concerned by reviews that made a big deal about sexual content, but I felt the sexual humour was done pretty tastefully overall, and nothing worse than you’d see in a high school romcom FROM the ‘80s! Like, it’s pretty normal for teenagers to have the “I don’t wanna die a virgin” mindset, so what are those people complaining about? Anyway, moving along, this movie turned out to be right up my alley, and one of the few recent examples of dark humour with some sexual elements actually done right, in my opinion, and I look forward to seeing more of Zelda’s directorial works in the future. The Burtonesque influence also just sold it for me, personally, especially with Sprouse’s performance (he was very Edward Scissorhands-like, which I thought was wonderful).

Eh, the 2000s seem not that long ago to be nostalgic about just yet except maybe very early on... like Britney Spears circa 2000 and no later lol. Plus, we still need more 90s nostalgia. Then again, I'm not tired of movies set in the 80s, I would still like a better throwback to Jem and the Holograms. That movie didn't do them justice. Also, whatever happened to the Thunder cats movie? I don't know what it is, but some of my fave books and TV shows have had horrible adaptations. I need a better one of The Circle please, I adored that series and the TV show was so disappointing. Same for Mortal Instruments, although the writing was admittedly questionable for those books, but I love the premise overall. Part angel humans in modern day New York that hunt demons hiding in plain sight?? Vampires, werewolves, fae, and other beings walk among us but disguised? I'm so sad that it's hard enough to get an adaptation at all, and we'll probably never see proper ones at this point.

I just stumbled across this review. Sorry, I have no idea who you are or what you usually like. That is something that a movie reviewer should keep to themselves. I watched the movie. It left me confused. I don't know why Lisa turned into Madonna as in "Desperately Seeking Susan." I really thought it was going to be a "who shot JR" ending. (Google it.) How was there anything left of her body in that fire? There must have been something left to bury. Also, why did the creature write Beloved Wife on the grave marker if he had her? So many unanswered questions. Even after I wasted 12 minutes of my life listening to you tell us how this isn't your kind of movie.
