It's been so long since we've gotten such an iconic camp film, this was an instant love for me I'm still stunned by how creative and bold every aspect of this movie was. The dream sequence!?! Liza embodies the talent that you get when you free these actors from the weird celebrity system of our home country. Lea Salonga proved it and Liza just reminds us of it.

Not to mention the quality and type of shows that PH produces, our actors' potential are held back. Have you seen the series, Almost Paradise? It's produced by Dean Devlin and is entirely shot in Cebu with mostly a Pinoy cast who mostly came from the ABS-CBN lot. The acting vets were pretty consistent in their performance, but with the younger actors, especially Shaina Magdayao in her guest episode, there's a huge difference in their acting.

I’m in that third camp. My wife and I saw it because of your review, Dan, and my wife and I were howling with laughter the whole time. To me, the mixture of crisp and often subtle dialogue with its gothic tone heavily reminded me of my all-time favorite TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon could write a script that just crackles as you watch it being performed and I got that same vibe from Lisa Frankenstein. Keep up your good work, Dan; I would have passed on this one otherwise.

Loved the trailer, loved the movie even more! I love that both Zelda and Diablo saw the vision for this film. They bring strong women forward in their work and are just creative geniuses. Not everyone will get the references, even the sweet Liza had to be told many of them simply because she’s young and immigrated here. Both me and my husband just adored this film. Would 100% go see it again. I do believe it will be a classic one day. LOVED all the nostalgic references too. Lisa Frank, Taffy’s license plate, hair crimpers, the fashion, just so much!! Even Janet answering the door to the solicitor and complaining about the knife company that came before him, lol.

Saw it last night and Lisa's bedroom has such a cool set design. For this being Zelda Williams first feature film I'm really hopeful to see her continue to direct. Saw this movie a few days ago with my gf and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I no longer watch trailers unless it’s a big IP like Star Wars or Marvel as to go in with no expectations, but being familiar with Diablo Cody’s work had me expecting a subversion at some point. My gf did watch a trailer and assumed it’d be like Warm Bodies. But the execution of the turn was just so expertly handled, from the writing, direction, and performances, that I found myself just smiling through most of the film. And my gf, who hasn’t been a huge fan of most the screenings I bring her to, really loved it. I hope it finds the right audience, but can definitely see this becoming a cult classic like Jennifer’s Body

I was also pleased with the off-kilter story that went beyond what was hinted at in the very romance-centric trailer. Really felt like a genuine successor to the more whimsical side of Burton. While it did turn out to be a touch more colorful than my expectation, I am a teensy bit disappointed it doesn’t veer far enough into the neon surrealism of Lisa Frank art, instead staying comfortably mall-goth-in-80s-world territory. I enjoyed Gugino’s “wicked stepmother,” and I thought we were going to get a more “Cinderella” type story, but I’m not sure whether or not I prefer how it played out after placing that piece on the table. Agreed that Liza/Taffy’s loving stepsister characterization was a welcome twist from convention. Definitely will be a cult classic.

Jennifer's Body has a mighty cult following in the spooky gal circles and I think the Lisa Frankenstein marketing team knows its audience because they did tie ins with one of the horror themed coffee shops in LA and had some horror girlie influencers at premiers. I saw Lisa Frankenstein over the weekend and really liked it. There were definitely parts of this movie that surprised me (in a good way). I was a teenager in the 1980s and really loved the many 80s references sprinkled throughout the film. I think my favorite joke in the movie was Lisa's description of a character from Days of Our Lives. I laughed harder at other parts, but there was something about that joke that had me thinking about it days later and smiling. It's a shame the movie hasn't done better with either the Tomatometer (51% positive) or earned more money at the box office. Hopefully, the producers and director kept the budget reasonable enough that when home rentals and purchases are added up the film will be profitable. I really want Diablo Cody to keep writing screenplays.

The chemistry between Kathryn and Cole is fantastic. But for me Cole is clearly the star of the film, without saying so much, just his physicality is just beautiful to watch.🥰 Zelda Williams' memory of her father in the last scene when Cole wears rainbow braces is also simply wonderful - a reminiscence of Robin's role in Mork & Mindy.😍

Zelda Williams said she loved the lighting in 80s slasher/ horror movies…you would see a aqua color. Especially in the night scenes from like American werewolf in London. Which she was inspired by and she also used red colors. And ofcourse tim burton was another inspiration. I think she absolutely captured that look and feel of 80s slasher movies. It reminds me of heathers/ my boyfriends back/ scissorhands. I hope that we start seeing more movies like this. Rom/ com-dark comedies ect. “Movies nowadays have a message or are trying to be too politically correct and it ruins it before it even comes out. Spoilers: I liked this movie, but I didn't love it which makes me sad. I think one of my problems was Lisa herself. Throughout the movie she'll have these moods swings like one minute she's empathetic, the next she's emotionally dead. One minute she's nerdy or sexy, the next minute she's vicious. It felt like the movie was leading to a reveal that all of this was in her head or that she killed her birth mom like The Voices or Joker, but then it doesn't go anywhere. I think there's a difference between subverting expectations, and just having your character act different just, because the script says so. That being said I love the aesthetic and tone of the movie, I just wish Lisa felt more like a person than a charactature.

I really, really need the studios to stop putting out bait and switch trailers. Market the film that was made. Stop trying to trick people into seeing genre movies. It doesn't work for musicals. It doesn't work for horror movies. People need to know what they are signing up for. There is an audience. It just won't be as general. That needs to be okay. Not every movie will appeal to all people.

It also feels like a worse version of Jennifer's Body, and I wasn't a huge fan of that film either, but most of what that film did worked better than this. That being said,.I really enjoyed the.performances (hopefully this proves Kathryn Newton as a capable lead) and the craft, and how bold and unique it is. And there's a certain magnetism to Diablo Cody movies where, even if you don't enjoy them, you feel compelled to see them to their end.
