During the first season of Cheers, I recorded on VHS, the entire season. It was so good and I was afraid it would be cancelled. I recorded the second season for the same reasons. By the third season, I recorded something else over those recordings. I watched friends back to back to back to get me by the loneliness of living alone during lockdown. A great conversation between two people I enjoy from shows that are on my list of favorites. Thank you.

The first time I saw the very lovely Ms Kudrow(I think she was a Ms at the time) she was in the tv show Newhart. I was only about 9 years old at that time and I remember thinking "oh that's a very beautiful woman" ... then cut ahead about 12 or 14 years and I saw Friends for the first time and I had no idea that was the same person. After that first time I saw Friends it took me another year or two before I finally realised "OH MY that's her!" Lisa you're very beautiful and I love your acting. Now don't tell the others I said this, I don't want to hurt any feelings, but you're the most beautiful of all the actresses in the show Friends. Thanks for being you. As somebody who grew up watching Becker, Friends, and even Frasier (Cheers was a little before my time), I loved this entire conversation. Getting a little insight into both Ted & Lisa's personalities really deepens the appreciation I've had for their character work over the years. The Good Place is one of my favorite modern TV shows, the Friends jokes from Ted's character and then Lisa's cameo towards the end of the series were just wonderful.

Beautiful talk between two real people. That's what we need. In stead of quick 10 min superficial talks. Love to hear about the fame aspect of it all. How it changes people. I would say: Talk the whole hour about this aspect. It is not a subject famous actors really talk about. While we all know that all these very famous and successful Hollywood actors are becoming very rich and very well known all over the world. What this does to people, how it influences their lives and their outlooks on life, is fascinating. Lisa talks about guilt people feel about getting so rich. Financially successful she euphemistically calls it. As if the word rich is being avoided by her. And it is interesting to see that she finds an alibi, a justification for the job she is doing and the job she is rewarded for so plentifully. So, yes of course actors and sitcoms are helpful in people's lives. It is like a moment of relief for many people. Or a moment.not to think about things. A zen moment. A tool to make your mind empty. to not worry and to make some endorphins. That is all true. But in the end this is also a cultural result within our capitalistic system. Actors are rewarded so much money because they relax the masses, they distract the masses and above all they make the masses feel good about spending money on the products and services which pay these actor's salaries. Because large cooperations buy up the advertisement slots around the sitcom episodes. Bread and games make the people feel at ease and above all: controllable. That climate change. we and Ted and Lisa are so concerned about is the result of this same capitalistic system. The guilt most people feel when becoming millionaires is because they know that within the current capitalist system, many people have to suffer in poverty. So of course you feel guilty. And in the USA paying taxes is seen as something dirty, so then celebrities start to do charities. But when a society is resorting to charity in stead of paying enough tax, a lot of tax so that no one has to live in poverty and everyone has access to good quality affordable health care, affordable education and to good qualitative affordable housing. This is avoided in this whole discussion. Because the same system that is causing climate change is the same system that creates millionaires and billionaires. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Hollywood productions as no other. And I can dive into binge watching Friends, Cheers, The White Lotus and Severance. But in the end it is hardcore Capitalism with a big C that is destroying the earth. And Hollywood is intrinsically connected to hardcore capitalism: the sitcoms, the films, the series, they all sell products, they sell advertisement space. Lisa and Ted made many corporations lots of money and that is why they became millionaires themselves. I don't blame them. It is what we all will do. But as long there is no real system change we are going towards our own downfall. And you can make people aware of the oceans and climate change. But when you are part of the mechanics behind this huge for profit Capitalistic system you are also causing those problems you want people to be aware about. So yeah, tax the rich. We need to go towards a more social capitalistic system. Poverty is a societal choice and not the fault of an individual. If you are not of great value to these huge corporations who are making enormous profits and along the way are creating a handful of millionaires and billionaires you won't be rewarded hugely. On the contrary, many people will be left to suffer: to be homeless, to be poor, to be without dental care, medical care and without affordable education. And hence people will blame others who do not look like them, who do not dress like them, who do not eat the same food as they do and who do not have the same cultural rituals, The big players will be able to redirect the blame to other poor people as long the majority of people just come buy their stuff and services. In short, actors make so much money because they are of use to the big corporations. I didn't want to be a party pooper but it is fact. So, now I will go watch some media production to relax and then afterwards I will go to sleep. I also am part of this system and I can't change it on my own.

What's funny is what Lisa was describing is one of the core messages of the Bible. "You can not and will not know the future and when your time will end. The best you can do is see others as God sees you, a perfect creation worthy of redemption. If you actually do that it will transform your life and transform the environment around you. I appreciate how Ted gently stood up against her nihilism and climate denial. It's so much easier to be in denial, emotionally, but what he says about the oceans and our climate is true and real. Anyway, Thankyou Lisa for putting that argument down using just grace alone. Climate science is complicated science, which requires at least a degree in Geology. 99.9 percent of people are not slightly qualified on the issue.
