Quantum theories help us to understand a reality that is hidden from our senses, but which affects our daily lives more than we can imagine. Lisa Randall is one of the most important female scientists of our time, author of seminal works that have contributed to our understanding of the universe (or universes) that we live in, such as "Warped Passages" (2011), "Knocking on Heaven’s Door" (2013) and "Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs" (2016). Lisa Randall is at K19 to explain how physics influences us at different levels and how we conceive the universe.
This lecture took place at Kosmopolis 2019 (CCCB, 24 March 2019).

Certainly moments of brilliance and wonderful explanations but...BUT...this was a massively disorganized presentation. I'd like to hear from here again when she can be concise and cogent.

Really? What specifically did you find disorganized and/or incoherent? Remember she is speaking in a way that considers her non-native English speaking audience.

@@dougraddi908 NOW we have concord. My actual 2 points were: 1. in the long run, atheism is unfulfilling, and 2. she clearly demonstrates that lack of humanity when she takes cheap shots at the greatest nation on earth that has done more for mankind than any other, spent more money on other nations than any other, etc etc. ETC. How you can, with your obvious intelligence, disagree with either of those points, I cannot understand. To deny America's greatness in fact pulls the very rug out from under her own achievements.

Occasional sparks of brilliant hard work but as a whole this scale thing hovered on the ordinary. I have a feeling she trying to shed some light onto hidden secrets of quantum level but stopped short may be some kinda constraints

The fourth dimension is another time dimension: dark matter only works in either the past- or the future momentum, so the LHC will never spot these by using smaller timespace dimensions or higher energy. You can only theoreticly understand them.

@petervandenengel1208
@petervandenengel1208 4 жыл бұрын
No, those are surfaces. The three dimensions are line extensions: up/ down, left/ right and depth: befor and behind. But in a way you are right, three us incorrect, because a point is the first dimension of space, a line the second, a surface the third and space aa a sphere the fourth. Time is not a spacial dimension/ but an action, which requires energy.

Question: Has gravity been confirmed at the subatomic scale? Can you actually measure the weight (NOT measure the mass and calculate weight, but measure weight directly) of a subatomic particle? If subatomic weights are only statistically measurable, it would support the existence of a graviton; if subatomic weights are continuously measurable, on the other hand, it might mean there is no graviton. I'm asking because according to General Relativity, gravity is not a force, but rather a consequence of the deformation of space-time and the fact that we are traveling through space-time even when "at rest". If this theory were correct, the graviton would not be needed.
