The first female theoretical physicist tenured at Harvard, Lisa Randall makes ideas like string theory and quantum mechanics accessible to the rest of us in bestselling books like Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Warped Passages.
Now, she’s onto something new: dark matter-and evidence of how it may be interacting with matter here on earth. For cosmologists, this is sensational. Bill Nye joins Randall to discuss the ideas in her new book, Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs.

Get off the rad-fem track--men interrupt women?--sure, compared to whom?
@JohnSmith-cg3cv

TheWhitehiker is a perfect example of how the world has gone crazy post-2015. He’s saying that you’re on the “radical feminist” track for saying that you respect Lisa Randall for trying to be assertive in communication and not allowing herself to get interrupted while speaking, and he’s expressing this viewpoint while replying to a 5 year old comment no less! The world has gone mad!!
@TheWhitehiker
@TheWhitehiker 8 ай бұрын
John my friend, you missed my point--men interrupting women is an old rad-fem plaint, as old as second-generation feminism; by the way, praise for saying she's not done yet? How many times is dialogue interrupted in interviews?--it's called engaged debate or just conversation; not that the rad-fems would like that, of course.@@JohnSmith-cg3cv

Lisa Randall is a great woman. I love her writing. I wrote a poem based on her book. Ignorance of science and the ecosystems of nature, for example ignorance of the importance of atmospheric balance, can be a serious evil to sustaining human life on Earth. We must transition quickly from filthy fossil fuels to clean, green, renewable energy to avoid climate catastrophe, fast approaching.

(Their like little kids almost! Haha.) The fact is, these two have become such great science educators for the public, and that.. is just truly wonderful. I aspire to do the same over my career. I have big plans in Applied Physics, I'm almost done getting my Bachelor of Science in both Physics and Mathematics, but I for sure do want to develop this skill of explaining deep science to the common public like these giants, actually even better. It's not that it's confusing, but that they keep coming up with new invisible things to explain the existence of their first invisible things. I'm not sure, but at some point it seems like 'dark matter' (and the 'dark' versions of items that interact with it... now dark photons) is going to become too much like religion. How about we just admit we don't know the math and/or physics to explain how galaxies work with the view-able matter, and - for at least a while - assume it could be explained by visible matter, but that we aren't applying the correct angles on it?

Mambo Dave, this seems familiar to what Thomas Kuhn called paradigm shifts. Many anomalies building up revealing our lack of conceptual understanding of gravity. Also, some physicists are currently working on "Modified Gravity" theories that adjust our understanding of gravity to fit the observable universe without dark matter. Often called "MOND."

Infinite
@imshadi
@imshadi 5 ай бұрын
It's infinite in theory, because the matter that forms it has existed forever. It certainly makes no sense to think it can be measured. It simply falls off in intensity with the square of the distance to it, and mathematically it reaches zero intensity at an infinite distance.

She needs to go on Joe "I know a guy that knows this guy" Rogan and discuss these matters with him, cuz he has many new reflections to add to the matters at hand.

Look at the Ecliptic disk of all the planets, take the plane of the Milky Way which is the plane of our galaxy which is slightly off the solar plane, this solar plane is on the edge of the galactic plane. The derogatory term “flat-earthers” has yet a third meaning more in line with space time, dark matter (which is matter that is elementally small, profuse, and simply unseen in the absence of light.) & these mass relationships. It is important to Not base truth on lies, conjecture, & fabrication! Regarding Black Holes & Stars, the former is composed of the two most abundant elementary elements (hydrogen & helium?) in the vacuum of space while the latter is the transforming light radiation mass reactor which has an observable birth, life, & death, from what I’ve been led to understand. Because we faked going to the moon, the Electromagnetic Shield known as Van Allen does not exist and space is a friendly place to those who make things up. Parables explain Science & Spirit as one & the same. How is Holy Scripture powerful in explaining prophecy & science & ideas & language & Spirit? It is not acceptable to murder, lie, & steal.

Why this women would even talk to this man (who is an actor not a scientist) is beyond me.
