2:53 is the most replayed moment due to the beautiful symbolism. Lisa turns away from the crowd to have her own personal moment to vibe with the music, and the crowd, completely in tune with her vibe, starts dancing in sync with her. Long before you were born back in the 50s and 60s and 70s. White artists would not sing at places like the Apollo, Royal theater and Howard theater and other places where the black entertainers would perform. These places were called the chit-lin circuit. When the black entertainers of that time frame perform at those places you better come correct. In other word you better be on your A game or they will let you know. For whites artists to perform at these places it was a test. If they could win the blacks with the way they sound then they knew they had a chance especially in the R&B sound back in the day. Beside a many whites liked our style music but mainstream would not always accept it. They called it the Nigge# music.

Now this is what I'm talking about, R&B where there is live/real singing, fully clothed. I remember this time because I lived through all that great music. Not knocking music now but back in the 80's and 90's, there was always someone fresh and new coming out with great material. It was stated that not since Teena Marie, had a white woman sang R&B convincingly at that point. I'm just quoting one of the critics from when this song was released. I have also read that the late great DJ from WBLS, Frankie Crocker was very instrumental in getting this song played. I heard that when he played it, this song just caught fire. The Apollo audience really welcomed her in this performance, and you can tell that the energy is crazy. This song was a monster hit and still gets you in your feelings when you hear it. I became an instant fan of hers when she came out with this song. Loved her look too...the short hair cut with the curl thing on the side of her head lol........Where in the world did the time go... lol
