Being a Muscovite I never ever can get this point.....I would say to rent a brand new or used well-decorated flat in about 15 min commuting from the city center is way better and cheapper especially with a public transport so well-developed as in Moscow...Whereever I live I would rather renting some brilliant flat in outscirt than pay a cost of my arm and leg for a central area. Furthermore you have no needs to use a transportation during rush hours. Just my take. 🤨

Congratulations on finding yourself a place to live in a nice residential area. The wooden flooring is probably the soviet version of parquet flooring. The apartment has plenty of potential, and with your artistic skills and feminine touch it will be transformed into a beautiful and cosy home. I didn't spot any radiators so is the building heated via hot air heating ducts? I am looking forward to watching your renovation / redecoration updates. Good luck with all the tasks that lay ahead. 🍀🎨🖌🌻

The wooden floor is nice you can do the sanding and it will look great , paint walls in plain white including kitchen and bathroom (special paint) rooms will look bigger , bath tab can also be painted in white use light natural wood furniture throw old sofas as they are too big for the space, bathroom floor is nice keep it , toilet door ought to be painted in light beige to match furniture and for contrast with white color , washing machine to remove from there and to be installed in kitchen which floor can be covered with vinyl tiles (light wood parquet style) repaint kitchen furniture to match new furniture (white and light wood color) cover the ventilation with small grill net to prevent insect from entering, remove room door, curtains should be Sand color + white. Add green plants 🪴 add large mirrors in room and bathroom , Voila ✨️⚘️

A very interesting size of the apartment in Moscow for $400 and I know that there will a lot of work to be done throughout the flat. There is something basic I will pass onto you, Lisa, that I do when painting a room, I use some buckets with water to allow it absorb the paint fumes. By employing this method I do all time, you will notice a film of paint on the surface of the water, so the room will not smell. In here Britain, we also have on sale in the shops, the cleaning product, 'Domestos'. The catchy advertising line is..."Domestos"...kill all known germs, dead". Looking forward to the transformation. Thanks

Your apartment is beautiful. I've always loved old soviet apartments, especially the ones that haven't been totally renovated and still have some of the original features (like your floors). I find they have a warm and inviting vibe. Also, you had asked about the English word for one of your cleaning items. We would call that a "dust pan," but it does kind of look like a small shovel lol. All the best from Canada 🇨🇦

That is a Beautiful Apartment Lisa! Very cozy and the location looks nice too! The place looks so nostalgic with the older 1960-70's look! I love the old appliances, wallpaper and drapes, but good to start with fresh new! The wood floors can be cleaned. You made the right choice to find something for less and invest in it! Everything can be made to your perfection! Perhaps you can still keep the sofa and loveseat and reupholster them, or just rinse/vac to steam clean them. Good Luck and please keep posting how your progress is going with the new updates! I can't wait to see how it all looks in the end! 😊👍❤❤❤

Obviously, after Lisa showing us around in a Krushovka, it cannot have been in a residential building. I guess the babushka's behind their tables watching every strange move, must have taken post in the big hotels where foreigners arrived and stayed in the Soviet days. As what we read back then, they guarded a long corridor each, which is what a typical hotel corridor looks like.

If you do a really good job, maybe your landlord will hire you to renovate ALL the apartments in his building? (Only kidding). Seriously, I appreciate all the time and effort that it must take to make such quality content on your KZbin channel. I pray that when your lease is up in one year, that your channel will have grown so much that you can afford any apartment that you want to live in.
@halkak7967
@halkak7967 7 ай бұрын
There is no such thing as the owner of 'all the apartments' in that building😉 Every apartment there has its own owner. Lisa's landlord might have inherited that property from their grandma (a very typical scenario) or another relative and thus rents it out for extra income living in their other apartment in Moscow or elsewhere.
@tedhazlett
@tedhazlett 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for the explanation. I live in the United States and I watch content like this to learn how things work in other countries. I use to own several small muti-unit houses in Pennsylvania that I renovated and maintained (My goal was to be a “good” slumlord). I just assumed that it worked like that in other countries also. Although, there are Condominiums for sale in the USA that work kind of like you described. The point of my original comment was that I saw a lot of work that needs to be done in that apartment and often these renovations turn into a “money pit”. Lisa might turn out to be a great handyman, but it might be best for her to invest her time and money into continuing to grow her channel. Hopefully she can stick to her $200 budget, but I just spent that amount on enough paint to just repaint the ceilings on our small home in North Carolina. I watched her start to scrape wallpaper off the walls standing on the arms of a plush chair. A good fiberglass 6” ladder costs over $200 in America!

A very typical apartment that has not been seriously repaired since perestroika. RBL36,000/USD400 per month is a bargain given inflation. In 2018, that was the price of a 2 room 42m2 apartment in Sokolniki. So long as the water works, electric works, and no drafts from outside, its fine. I think it was previously lived in in by an old babushka or dedushka. Be sure to read the electric, gas and water meters every month in order to keep the bills down (normally the owner pays the bills (they are in the owner's name - they have the propiska there). You email the meter readings to them so they do not pay the maximum charge. Do not renovate without the agreement of the owner(s). Negotiate!

The owner of this flat might have their residential registration(or propiska as you called it in a Soviet manner) elsewhere, e.g. in another flat they also own or in some flat owned by their family members.

Типичная унаследованная "бабушкина квартира", которую сдают годами, а то и десятилетиями, "как была", потому что жильцы в Москве все равно всегда найдутся и на такую.

Hi Lisa! Your apartment is very nice, but im sure your going to make it look great! This might be a challenge, so I hope you have help. And also your video I found most enjoyable! It gives me an idea of what apartment life is like in Moscow Russia. - Lisa best regards from Blake w in Michigan USA.
