Hi @Lisa Oswald is the gradient for the axes of symmetry always 1 and -1 ? And thank you for your videos. Before i watched your videos on graphs I knew nothing about graphs and now I have a better understanding 💫

Yes Masana it is either 1 for the axis that slopes to the right, or -1 for the one that slopes to the left. Then you plug in the point where the 2 asymptotes meet, solve for c and have the entire equation of the axis.

Can someone please tell me how this hyperbola differs from a conic section hyperbola because they are vastly different and I can't seem to find/identify the difference between them? If I google "Hyperbola", expecting the hyperbola function that we learned in Grade 11, such as this one, to pop up, I don't, but are rather met with the conic section hyperbola.

It can be +p or -p. Different textbooks teach it different ways. The only thing you need to remember is that you have to change the sigh when writing down or plotting the asymptote.

What if your gradient (a value ) is 1 and you're doing the table method ? ... (I'm only getting negative numbers) please help me ❣

The A value is not gradient in a hyperbola it's the "stretch factor" rather. .. And you are unlikely to get a as 1 because there are no whole-number factors. You would need to put fractions into table method to get something reasonable to plot. Table method only works if you know what to input. I recommend you rather calculate and plot the critical values rather than using table method.
