Imagine how many beautiful things were lost forever, all over the world, forgotten in the past, somewhere nobody knows anymore.

Muito Obrigado, Andreia! I agree with you, Libsoa should take a step back, and not try to be something which results in the end of its unique character and identity. This global village thing has gone too far. I have been visiting Lisboa since 1972 (not enough times to my liking) and much has changed, particularly in the 10-15 years. I do not need to see Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, Star Bucks, Burger King, et, all. For that I could stay home. In as much as the flood of tourists brings in billions, many Lisboetas who are not property owners have lost plenty, who can no longer afford to live in the city. Logamento Local (Airbnb) should be outlawed. If you need to cater to tourists, build bloody hotels. It's nice to see so many buildings na baixa being restored and made into hotels, but the traditional ground floor businesses that gave Lisboa its character are gone. Are we going to be seliing pasteis de nata from one end of Rua Augusta tp the other? Least of all, those artisans who built the beautiful calçada, hardly expected it to be hidden by hundreds of restaurant tables down its middle, or hucksters using the public space to sell crappy hats or purses.
