There is depth and richness to the sound. To be fair, I could hear some vinyl background noise in the right channel in the lead-in groove and under the first part of the song. But if that's the only thing you're listening to and if that's going to cause you to dislike this cut, then you're not listening for the music.

I'm 7 years late to the game here, but you just sold a record for the Oberkampf Apple Rabbits ep... In addition, you gave me some hope for the convoluted antiskating system on my VPI Prime 21 Turntable.. I looked at the angle in which you had the Monofilament line attached to the rubber washer pivot system. My Prime 21 has a gimbal arm instead of the unipivot arm. I have spent days trying to get the correct antiskating bias. I'm pulling what's left of my hair out. I'm trying to use the Peter Ledermann method to set antiskating as I do not own a Wally Skater. I loved the video. Even though I found it late, I am thankful for you posting it.

You are correct, regarding the sound of this table, I'm on my second VPI, I went from a VPI HW-19 MK IV to my present VPI Classic and Audio Research PH-8 and the bass is indeed very powerful. If I didn't have the VPI Classic with the deal I got on it I would have bought a Prime. I will be looking at just getting the 3d Arm in the future as a upgrade. The Album is very good and I will be looking to purchase it. If you get the chance, check out a band called Chon, similar type of music. Also the new Radio Head- A Moon Shaped Pool is a great album. Thanks for your continued dedication to vinyl and showing others the way that this format, which has outlasted all of the others is still very much alive and well and doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg with your reviews of the Project and their lower end tables and the U-Turn table. Keep up the good work Michael, you are a great Ambassador for this format.

There appears to be layers of detail but on KZbin I'm not sure how much gets through. I can hear what appears to be a various multidubs of the vocals overlaid with a huge range of electronic effects including some subtle but impressive bass notes. Lots of acoustic information to dissect and no doubt a good system evaluation tool. What I'm hearing on my modest Nad B&W DM4 system sounds pretty good for a youtube file but I'd need to hear it in the flesh to really be sure. Piped out of your massive speakers I'm confident I'd be blown away.

I remember the video with the RL pressing of Led Zeppelin II and how you talked about how vinyl can too have lots of bass. You of course brought that point back up in this video. If I remember correctly, 180g and 200g pressings tend to have more bass than standard vinyl. Nice to see a video with something like the Prime and just a VPI turntable in general. I totally want a Prime as part of my upgrade path. Eventually I'll even go for the Avenger Reference. :)

I've also noticed that nowadays the Prime is typically sold with no cartridge whatsoever unless you go to certain sites that will install a cartridge that you have selected for free. In the setup video done by Ron Brenay of New Record Day, Ron connected an Ortofon 2M Black to the Prime because it didn't come with a cartridge. I am also pretty excited for the Prime Signature and the Titan.

'A moderately Priced Turntable' ...OK..the Prime Signature is my bucket list turntable, (keep the Helikon, I'll go with a Benz or Dynavector) with the 3D JMW arm..and I still would need to sell a Kidney. I'm 50 freakin' years old now, but the time I can afford something like this. I'll need hearing aids and someone else to play the records and turn on the gear for me..great LP love the sounds, kind of ENO-esque, I I never heard it before, till now, and am working on securing a copy. My problem is I have tons of great Lp's but don't own a table worthy of playing them on. got everything else though, jut not a TOTL table/arm . I loved hearing and watching the VPI Prime just the same. I'd have mine in a shrine next to my other gear, Mikey keeps his in the plumbing room...WOW..Mikeys Copper plumbing is worth more than some peoples whole kit..

Fantastic! Picked up the EP through Bandcamp based on what you played from the first side. It being EP, there should be room to let the dynamic really play out. Hey Micheal, Just recently bought a pro-Ject debut carbon turntable and I listen to 3-4 records daily. I do buy records online from time to time, and however one record that I had recently purchased had a warp into it so then I started doing research on a record clamp (or even a weight) if you may. But I'm curious.. With a clamp or weight, won't that warp a record more when the pressure is taken off of it? I hate to see the stylus going up and down because it makes me think it's gonna go off track and I certainly wouldn't like that if there's a certain song I like listening to! I know this shouldn't be written to you on this video but it came to my mind and the only person to ask is you! Thanks, Kyle PS, Love your channel!
@TheThodi8 жыл бұрын
it definitely won't bend it more! I'm also a pro-ject debut carbon owner and I'm using a clamp since the motor of our turntable isn't really made for a lot of weight. the reasons as to why you should use a clamp/weight is because it reduces the vibrations for an improved listening experience, it helps a lot with the warped records which improves your vinyls lifespan and it really does look very cool. :) the one I'm using is the JA michell record clamp because it "de-warps" in a very efficient way IMHO but anykind of clamp will do for you, just pick the one you would be happy to see on your turntable!

@andreacosta747 жыл бұрын
I also noticed this in many other cases. Try also comparing an original analog pressing played through a good you tube transfer ("quality" MP3) and the same song directly from the original Digital Mp3. Probably cause vinyl is an intrisecally "euphonic" medium (not strictly hi-fidelity medium compared to original master tapes and supr hi-res digital). It has the best transients and its proper defective "inability" for designing square waves smoothing them to sine ones, recall to me tube amps working...as comparing solid state guitar amps overdrives with class-A tube overdriven guitar amps
@chupathingy58628 жыл бұрын
I dig those square waves in the background. I dig a lot of straight chiptune stuff, which doesn't use a whole lot of "real" instruments, so it's extremely refreshing to hear it outside of that context. Thanks for the video!

I can hear a rumble on the lead-in. Can't tell if this is the LP or the table. Are VPI tables highly regarded for their low rumble? I wonder if this rumble goes away when the music starts. This problem has always bothered me. With the unmodulated tracks on the Cardas test LP, my vintage Micro Seiki DD-40 with MA-505 arm seems to have two levels, below 200Hz, the background is about 55 dB down from reference level, above that, it is 20 dB quieter. Is this good, average, or bad?

Analog Planet, my comment was clean and appropriate considering that Bradford Thornton stated it was digitally recorded. As such it is a mute point to buy an analog media if the source was digital. Sometimes, people have more money than common sense. It's acceptable to want to spend more money on a RECORD player that looks fancy and overbuilt. It's another to assume that because you spent $5k on a cartridge with a fancy name, that it will sound better than my $90 Audio Technica cartridge. Let's keep one fact in mind here, THIS. IS. ANALOGUE. RECORDING... Again, its analogue. There is only so much you can do before you have to admit that you're making it up in your head to try and justify the insane cost.

Records have always been sourced from electronic recording, with the first being tape (magnetic dust stuck to plastic). The newest method is to record the actual performance through digital recovery methods using 8, 12, 18, 24 input mics. I mention this because some joker thinks they use CDs. Are you really this dumb? The problem is transferring the final product to the consumers. Either use an archaic CD or cut the sound to a record. At least try to be honest with your argument.

@berryvo8 жыл бұрын
I'm not making stuff up. Why don't you make a video where you play Mahler's first symphony? You'lll hear surface noise throughout the first section, which is very quiet. When a cd is properly mastered then an lp is no competition. But I agree on the fact that vinyl is fysically more attractive than cds.
@berryvo8 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion neither vinyl nor CDs are perfect. And I believe that sound quality is literally between the ears. Vinyl makes you happy. CDs make me happy. What bothers me is that many people, including yourself, state that CDs don't sound good like it is a fact. And when someone shows "proof", like measurements or so, then you say: Well, I know what I hear. And that's fine. One may like vinyl better than CDs. That's ok. But stating that vinyl IS better is not a forgone conclusion (if that's proper English). Thanks for taking time to reply by the way.
@berryvo8 жыл бұрын
Ah, I agree totally on your last remark. People don't just sit and enjoy music anymore. And I can see the attractiveness of vinyl here. The ritual of setting up the turntable and putting the LP on it and so on. I experiance that a little bit when i'm listening through my headphones (Sennheiser HD800's). I keep them in a case, so when I want to enjoy some music then it is a kind of ritual to get the headphones out and plug them in. Listening to classical music also requires careful listening and dedication from the listener. I'll email you in a moment. Thanks!
@berryvo8 жыл бұрын
I know it's not only that. But I can imagine it being a part of the listening experience. When I'm working at home and I want some music on the background (which isn't always a good idea) then I'll gladly play mp3 of flacs from my computer. But when I really want to enjoy the music then I'll sit down, get a cold Heineken, put on my headphones and enjoy some music. No distractions.
