Yeah, its almost as if KZbin alone is the ultimate tool for learning a language basically haha.
@loot69 жыл бұрын
That's a good tip although I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. If you watch a tv show or movie you have a lot of visual clues to help you understand what might be being said. But with a guy just talking right at the screen there's just nothing to help at all. Having said that, this method is very good indeed once you reach a slightly higher level and can basically understand what is being said since its 100% input. There's no time wasted watching a car chase like in a movie, it just 100% language input.
@VladimirSkultetyOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+loot6 Exactly. Movies and TV shows are full of empty segments. I think I did mention that this method works only if you're not a beginner too.
@loot69 жыл бұрын
+Vladimir Skultety Yeah, another thing is watching youtubers will REALLY help your pronunciation since seeing the mouth of a speaker while listening is way better than just audio alone. You can't learn how to pronounce a language properly without actually seeing the mouth of a speaker forming the words. That must be why your pronunciation is so good in the languages you've learned.

I like watching let's plays in the language I'm learning (Japanese). They usually have good microphones and watching the game gives a lot of context to help when you don't know a word they're saying. My favorite Japanese LPers are PockySweets, アブ, and みやゆう. If they're playing a game that doesn't have audio for the dialog, they often read what's being said (like アブ playing 妖怪ウォッチ) which is pretty close to a subtitled video, just backwards. As far as more normal videos go, there's people like Megwin (lots overly-macho sounding dialog and weird stuff), はじめしゃちょー (talks really fast), Seikin (speaks more politely (closer to textbook conversations) and is easier to understand), Dekakin (does lots of weird silly things and I like his low quality parody of Hikakin), MAHOTO (always doing something silly and ill-advised).

How much time a day would you recommend to spend learning a language, including all kinds of stuff: textbooks, audio/video courses, watching youtubers and so on? Is it good 2 hours a day? How much time a day did you normally spend to learn a new not so difficult (not asian) language?
@VladimirSkultetyOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+Kon You know it's very difficult to say. When I really wanted to learn a new language and I was in good conditions (when I lived in Italy for instance) I was learning Italian all day every day for weeks and didn't feel any stress. But this included conversations with my friends, reading books, listening to radio etc. If you're not in country, probably 2 hours a day if you have a busy schedule are pretty good.

Thank you Christian. More people have been telling me this, but I can hear everything clearly and loudly. I tried to speak louder in my newest videos, but even in the older ones, there was only one where the sound was really not that good.

Vlad, I like to watch a lot of media, but I don't watch many vlogs o youtube, I prefer to watch tv shows or movies. Do you think it's better, for example, to watch more vlogs or tv shows?
@VladimirSkultetyOfficial9 жыл бұрын
I think vlogs are better because you are listening to monologues, which can help you much more.
@23patrocinio9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I should probably spend more time watching vlogs then. I spend like 2,3 hours/day watching tv shows and just 20/30 minutes with vlogs.

Hey! I'm thinking of studying Chinese or Japanese at uni and after some time study either social work or international relations too, do you think they work well together? as you have already studied Chinese at uni, do you think it's worth it? I'd love it if you'd make a video about your experience as an interpreter, the advantages etc! xx
@VladimirSkultetyOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+Shin Lee Hello. I'm not sure how Chinese/Japanese is treated in universities around the world but we went into incredible detail with history and literature, so in this case I would recommend doing it if you'd like to do research in the field or teach the languages later. If you just want to learn the language then I'd leave to China/Japan, teach English there and learn the language on my own.

@VladimirSkultetyOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Jasper Hi Joseph. I watched about 100 French youtubers and have to say he is the smartest and the politest one. If I remember correctly he has a degree in chemistry or math or something like that. He is Swiss, I don't see any problems with his French, but native speakers would have to assess that.
