Great to see you loved this release by Agalloch 👍 You need to try "Pale Folklore" which is their debut album hopefully some time soon🤞

I would best describe this as "a mood".

Love this band. My favourite is actually their debut. It’s very raw and rough around the edges, and not always recorded all that well, but that is part of its charm in a way. It’s a beautiful album.

Yes, i still think their debut is better than ashes, pale folklore always gets over looked, i even like their follow up more (marrow of the spirit) album than ashes. In ashes i only like a few songs, But pale, mantle and marrow i can listen to the whole album

The harsh vocals are in a more black metal style. I agree to a point but I’m pretty sure Michael Ackerfeldt’s harsh death metal growls wouldn’t fit well with this type of music. Love Agalloch and have enjoyed both your reactions to their albums. Quick recommendation of a band I have only just discovered. Dvne are a progressive/ post metal/ sludge band from Edinburgh. They have elements of Mastodon, Isis, The Ocean and Tool. They have blown me away, especially with their lastest release Voidkind. Keep up the great work Jim, love your positive, Jolly reactions to music that is right up my street. 🤘🏼

Given Jim a shout for DVNE recently. Their latest album is brilliant. I'm putting together a mix tape for him and will include something by DVNE to get him interested :)

Yeah the Black Metal vocals are necessary.

@@jimofthenorth8090Awesome! Yeah I’m pretty new to them, like a week or two. Not given their first two albums enough time yet but really enjoying their latest.

If you want to hear more of that ‘western themed’ style. Listen to Untamed Land. The album is called ‘Like Creatures Seeking Their Own Forms’. Truly amazing.

Marrow of the Spirit, imo, is just as good as this album if not even better. Would love to see you react to that one

Thanks for requesting this, Ryan! Always happy to see Agalloch on Jim's channel. Sorry the vocals aren't quite what you'd like Jim. They're more from the black metal style than traditional metal growls. They can be very divisive, even for me, depending on the artist; though I enjoy them from this band.

No problem! :) I feel like this album, and all Agalloch albums, are growers, so it's always risky to request!

You definitely need to listen to Pale Folklore, its theirs 1st album and its absolutely outstanding. Probably most atmospheric one. You will love it.

Like I said in the first half, I -really- like this album tracks 3+, which really seem to flow together.

For some reason my comment on part 1 didn't upload, so...um...basically...quite enjoyed that...copy and paste from 'The Mantle'... it's the unexpectedly different that stands out in this sort of music - yes, the acoustic guitar, but what about some clean female vocals? Some monastic chanting? A flugelhorn? 7/10 as it is.

I agree the second half of the album is mindblowingly good! I actually feel everything after the first track is very strong. No idea why they chose to lead with the worst song. 😂
