In the last song "are you happy" bo leaves the room, and metaphorically is leaving his comedy career behind him. So Bo walking back into the room at the start of inside is him coming back to his comedy career. And this connection makes me a little sad when thinking about it because both times we see him in his room (during the entirety of inside and for are you happy)we see bo at his lowest. He uses comedy to cope but comedy is also part of the problem as it build the fan base and the fans put more pressure on him to make more comedy.

Most interesting part about the Kanye Rant is that it was the last song in his latest special before Inside about 5 years ago. The song sounds like a cry for help after inside because he clearly says that he doesn't think he can handle being in the spotlight for very much longer, and that he needs to work on himself. And as we all know, after having some panic attacks while performing the show he quit touring and ultimately took a 5 year break as he explained during All Eyes on Me

My 2 favorite lines from Bo are "My drugs attention, I am an addict But I get paid to indulge in my habit" from Art is Dead and "You say the oceans rising like I give a shit You say the whole worlds ending, honey, it already did You're not ganna slow it Heaven knows you tried Got it? Good, now get inside" from All Eyes on Me. The ways hes able to construct and portray his songs with both comedy and some real shit is mind blowing and I feel like those two lines are so deep and relatable to damn near anyone

Words words words is just a whole song about random wordplays. It'd probably be easier to understand with lyrics lmao. Certain lyrics can go over heads easily. Also, the Kanye rant is interesting as the Pringles can and Chipotle burrito things could be seen as weird references to his actual problems. He couldn't fit and everything kinda fell apart and no one told him. Funny but sad when you realize that the whole thing could be interpreted about his falling out of Comedy.

It's terrifying to realize that after he walked off stage in "Make Happy", he had a massive panic attack, quit comedy for 5 years, and then made Inside. Also, I think the ending of "Make Happy is really depressing because it shows something that I think Bo thinks he will never get and this sort of idyllic perfect world.

I was just talking with my roomie about how the worst days of my past have become the stories I tell while laughing the hardest. Was I happy then? No, but I have moments now when I'm happier for those times. Alternately, I feel sad when I think about the great times because they're gone and done. Happiness is weird and variable for sure.

I don't mean to offend, but some of us have traumas so severe that we can't talk about it without reliving it. There's no laughing, just sickness. Again I don't mean to snap at you or anything, don't take it wrong. But when Bo says, "They don't even know the half of it," I have a feeling "it" is a LOT deeper than almost anyone knows. If he's anything like me anyway. Which he's clearly not, because he's successful. 😏😅😰

A lot of his songs refer to his mental health if you look at it from an angle "we know you" is a song about different groups of people having a different view of him as a person eventhough that's not always true. The base their opinions on something that's hardly comparable. ART IS DEAD: his guilt for the position he was basically forced in after his vines became popular. And him feeling guilty of taking money and time from people when there's other who like the lyrics said who work at the drugstore and live from almost nothing. His debate on weather or not its good he's in the position he's in. I don't think that I can handle this right now: refers to not only his insecurity and anxiety but also the panic attacks Bo has had over the years. Part of me fears you. His intire life became dependent on the opinions of the media something he wasn't expecting nor was he equipped to deal with it. (Idk that's how I look at them but I could very much be wrong)

'I can't handle this' is a very moving song. The burrito is a metaphor to his career. He wouldn't have been a celebrity if he knew about everything else that came with it. Such as mental health problems, attention all the time leaving him barely any time to just be himself, the need to please have everyone, so on and so forth. He started out on Vine for fun, and got scouted before he was 18 I think. Everything was dumped on him and no one told him the repercussions

Bo is such a versatile performer, he can make you laugh with his raps and his wordplay, and then bring you to tears. Can't Handle This and Are You Happy ? always give me chills and I cannot listen to them without crying, they hit me so hard. It's even more haunting when you think about his monologue in All Eyes On Me and how it's a sort of sequel to Can't Handle This, with him explaining he quit performing on stage after this. If you do another Bo reaction video, I highly suggest Rant (his rapping is so good in this !), From God's Perspective, Lower Your Expectations and Straight White Man.

mathew: yeah im pretty familiar with bo also mathew: hasnt listened to some of the most famous bo songs /lh on a serious note, a lot of his older stuff does deal with issues as well, but there are also lots of songs like words, words, words, which are pure wordplay. and i dont think either is inherently better or worse, but if you like inside a lot, youd probably like his more serious songs more overall. i do love words words words tho even years after i first heard it, i was still picking up on new puns. id recommend Oh My God (or From God's Perspective, oh my god was a predecessor), channel 5 news, and hell of a ride

Great video as usual! Here’s my recommendations for other videos vvv If you do Bo Burnham part 2: -Repeat Stuff -From God’s Perspective -Left Brain Right Brain -Lower Your Expectations -Ironic If you do another part of Dream SMP songs: -Out of Touch by Tia Jade ft. CG5 -Spectre by Ellienort ft. Hator -Nothing to Lose by Precious Jewel Amor -Empty by Precious Jewel Amor (Empty connects with Nothing to Lose so listen to them one after the other) -L’Manburg Anthem ft. Viewers by Kanaya (Lyrics by Wilbur Soot, actual anthem in the series) -Home by Kroh ft. Precious Jewel Amor -Woe to People of Order by The Shiny Snivy -Disappear by Candlebard If you do another Derivakat part: -Doomsday -Why (Why is about the aftermath of Doomsday so listen to them one after the other) -Last Goodbyes (This is a song for a Sleepybois inc. fanfiction called Passerine, based off of the song by The Oh Hellos) -Blue Also, Words Words Words’ lyrics don’t make sense because the song is based on puns and wordplay. You can take apart lines and realise clever things he did ex: “A boy, a girl, a middle aged b!tch, botox in the third person/I give the perspective a switch and Bo talks in the third person” and “90 lady cops in the road and I’m arrested for doing 80”.

I think one of the things that hits me hardest with the kanye rant was how he basically tells the crowd hes doing bad, then he says he should "just shut up and do my job" and *then* they start cheering. Almost as if encouraging that mentality of "shove it down and stick to what you do best"
@genostellar
@genostellar 2 жыл бұрын
I think that most people, when they ask the question or think about the question, they consider mostly where they are right now in their lives, all the highs and lows, and put it all together and they base their answer on whether or not they are generally content with how things are for them at the moment. If you think back on your life, every decision you've made, the good times and the bad times, and you come out of those thoughts generally satisfied with the results at the moment, then you are happy, even if you're not smiling all the time, even if you're angry or sad about something from time to time, even if it's hard work and you're struggling, even if you do have some regrets, if you can give your life a solid nod and breath a sigh of satisfaction, then that's enough to call it being happy. Some people, of course, can't do this, but I feel like most people probably can, even if they think their lives could be more than they are, or they could be doing more with them. Of course, I could be wrong and most people don't feel that way, but I hope that most people do.

I have so much respect for how you choose to react.. actually transformative, and with real commentary.. not just pretending to be some “BAR BREAKUUUUR” but then missing nearly everything while stealing the entire content with literal pauses shamelessly saying “sorry have to pause not to get blocked..... “ awkward... how about actually saying bloody something about it and how you feel.. just pretentious. I actually enjoy your commentary so much i wish youd spend more time talking bc the quick things you say are always so on point and important and i just want to hear you rant or talk more about it.. you seem extremely self aware and able to read the room with your initial comment and throught mid of the kanye rant.. you could feel it.. “shivers”.. then the absolute difference of tone once you felt the gravity and understood the deliberate use of the “run it one more time”... after the mini retell “just doing his job” despite his health. He flipped this show on its head with that song.. and yes, it was the last time he ever performed on stage again.. even inside, wasnt on stage, obv. So he has stuck true to his words in podcasts and interviews after the show ended when he dropped the fact that was this was intented to be the last time hed ever perform on stage again.. even if just for yourself, i highly recommend watching “bo burnham art is dead in the green room”.. its abt an hour long, but its a fascinating watch bc its a Comedians Lounge for the highest tier comedians.. so 50 mins of the vid is him, age 20, invited by a group of famous comedians to just banter and joke around. So its cool to not only see Bo, so young, being treated respectfully and equally to these very seasoned Comedy Vets.. but also to see how THEY all look at him.. with such intrigue.. so one of them eventually asks him to play “art is dead” and if you dont know the song.. its a very anti industry with very heavy punchlines which are usually the “joke” like most of his stuff.. the very ironic parts of life. So in the Green Room, he gets on that piano with just evolving rage, slamming the keys everytime the small audience there laughs, as if to say “THATS NOT FUNNY”. The Comedians who “get it” just watch in awe.. theres a lot of beautiful and funny things these older comrades say to him that just feels so honest and kind. Highly recomend. And i do wish youd speak longer abt yourself within the songs.. whether about life, music arrangement, whatever. You just sound like you could add so much more you prob cut out. Many Cheers. 🧚🏻‍♀️

Something that has always hit home for me with Bo's introspection is that I have a similar existential crisis pretty regularly where I'm worried I don't deserve my life or that despite working hard, I was given opportunities over people more deserving of them. I'm constantly torn between quitting my job and going full-force into charity work and staying where I am and helping other people be successful in my type of career. It's legitimately a regular topic at therapy and my therapist always reminds me that I need my job to pay my bills anyways 😅

When he said it's Way back in 1000 BCE - That's before the common era .... It is literally before the common era because of the 1000 years before, but he is also describing the meaning of BCE (Before the Common Era) - The wordplay in this video is crazy. Bo's songs are comical, but he usually throws in truth bombs to make you think. This one is about the double wordplay, but then the verse about the US brings it down to earth. The USA is great, but we are also really judgmental on immigrants and certain things as a country. We the people of the USA Jose, we're not talkin to you, esse. We got a border in order to keep you out, It's what my NYU essay's about Cause we're, xenophobic warrior princess, Molested by my uncle sam, is that incest? "I want you" to smell my finger Does my nephew's scent still linger? South of queers, north of hell, The queer ones suck and the brown one's smell We guard the border and we guard it well But some slip through the cracks of the liberty bell Did I say liberty? I meant taco, paco, hey you better let that rock go Cause in real life goliath wins And then sells all the silk that the widow spins.

"harkens back to inside" that's the amazing thing about it. it harkens forward to inside. inside seems to begin near the end of make happy. despite the five year gap, the two shows feel like a single work. because yes, that is the same room at the end.

I think I may have heard 'Can't handle this' about ten thousand times by now, and I cry like a baby. I hope you're happy.❤ He's absolutely brilliant! "We think we know you" is also a favorite.
