in the part where he reacts to 'unpaid intern' it's a metaphor for how he critiques things, then critiques himself for critiquing it, then he critiques the fact that he critiques that he critiques it, etc etc. he explains it's a defence mechanism and i think it was a very smart way to portray that feeling of being in a loop of constant self-critique about your own work

i don't think that he's necessarily critiquing reaction channels in "unpaid intern" i think he's just using a clever way, that's tied to the overall theme of the special - the internet, to portray himself uncovering the layers of his feelings of insecurity and the rationalization of these feelings

I find it deeply extential. In the feedback loop of internet (different from echo-chambers) "content creators" are forced to go down into the rabbit hole of responding to how people respond to what one have created. By each layer of separation we see Bo become more and more insecure about what he was originally trying to say about "free labor" (internships) because he gets caught up in a meta discussion of responding to himself being layered on top of itself until it is white noise and he panics. He is not pointing at reactors - he is pointing at what goes on in the comment fields below (and in his head) from getting "feedback" - and we all know what an analogue feedback-loop used to sound like in a microphone or via a guitar. Feedback is cool but too much of it is white noise just completely freaking everyone out. (Since I am a physicist - in the old days when a microphone starting to feedback with the speakers is not white noise, it actually start to harmonice in that insane high-pich sound of something powered by analogue amplifyers). I know I am old - let us call it white noise :)

I just noticed that in How the World Works, the first time Bo and Socko harmonize Socko sings the higher part while Bo sings the lower, while the second time Bo sings the higher and Socko sings the lower. This fits with the idea you brought up that Bo is exerting his power over Socko to keep him under him.

Love how you have already cought the fact that the special is a bit sad from just the songs. In the special, the songs are Bo's way of dealing with uncomfortable topics, through comedy! So they are the only "fun" part of the special, the scenes in between the songs is just him judging everything he makes... So it is a lot more depressing than this

And yes, the meta bit is a commentary on how so much content is just reacting to other content/events, and an endless feedback loop ensues where creating original content without reference becomes more and more difficult.

i think another interesting bit with "that's how the world works" is that after silencing socko with threats of removing him, he still inevitably removes him even after socko followed his orders. people in power will silence with threats, then even if people give in to the silencing, they're still punished because it's convenient for the people in power.

I think the commentary part its a lot of self awareness, itd about the parasocial theme ( where pple see mediatic figures as close to them) that bo loves to talk about, in that part he talks about the deshumanization part of the parasocial theme, ( where pple dont see u as a human, and sees u as a product, so figures are terrified of making mistakes) he reacts to his song, and reacts to the reaction creating a meta reaction, where he lists his insecurities, uses self awareness as a defense mechanism to critique himself before someone else can, before someone can critique his mistakes he uses self awareness and self critique, and i think in that part, his insecurities come from him being ashamed of his first videos and beginning, exemplified in the part of him watching his old videos and the im problematic song
