An incredible fact: SZA wrote "Supermodel" while recording. She said that the guitar was melancholic and floaty so she catch the mood and naturally the words came. She's a fantastic artist. Update: actually, most of the songs on the album was freestyled. SZA eating my ass with TALENT.

Actually consideration wasn’t made for this album. It was made for a completely different thing sza was working on. When she gave consideration away it pushed her to make this project.

This album helped me when I was at my lowest and continues to be the album I go to when I need comforting. Whew! It’s been ages since I’ve listened to this album. This reminded me how amazing the album is. It got me through a crappy relationship & breakup. In terms of the album: “Prom”: it’s title, lyrics, and even the music itself, all remind me of when you’re young and the end of high school comes, when you realise that the reality of growing up/being an adult/feeling like you don’t have enough time and everything that comes w/ that time period. The line “promise to get a little better when I get older” kinda makes me think of having your first relationship & losing your virginity & it maybe not being the best. I totally picture this being an 80s hs teen movie. The music even sounds sort of slightly influenced by 80s music & New Wave (same with “Anything”). “Go Gina”, you missed some cool references if you’re too young for them. The background part that goes “much too cool for 7th grade” is a reference to the 90s cartoon Pepper Ann. The line is part of the intro theme song. It’s an awesome cartoon about the titular character’s struggles & whatnot in middle school. Sza has mentioned that she was a big fan of it. Also, Lawrence was a 90s sitcom starring Martin Lawrence. Gina was his gf (or wife? It’s been ages since I’ve watched it). “Garden (Say It Like Dat)” is my favourite song on the album. The entirety of the lyrics hit way too close, but the line “Hope you never find out who I really am, cause you’ll never love me” legit has made me cry. Too real. I interpreted Normal Girl basically how you did. For most of the song, she is convinced and, therefore, wishes she was a “normal” girl. She doesn’t see herself feminine or submissive enough as what she thinks a “normal” girl is. She probably projects this onto him. And when it’s over is when she realises that she was a normal girl this entire time and there is no “normal”. Basically yes, it’s about societal standards..at least to me.
