I can only enjoy the music once I know the lyrics first. It takes a while. I’m hearing impaired at a moderately severe to severe level and have hearing aids for 50 + years. I love listening to your channel because it comforts me that I’m not alone in our struggles. Steve.

Interesting observation. I am much like you. Don't like listening to new music. Can't understand the words. Much happier listening to the old songs. Just one difference. I have normal hearing!

I'm 68, hearing impaired starting in 2005, and a music lover from birth. I own tons of old records but mostly listen to new music. One thing I don't do is listen to music with my hearing aids in. It sounds horrible, I use hearing aids strictly to hear conversation and can't wait to take them out when I get home. For music I use Apple earbuds and find that the music still has that full rich sound that I want.

I have been hard of hearing all my life and have struggled understanding words to songs. If I hear a song and I really enjoy the music I will down load and watch on youtube to learn lyrics. As an example a song I like from the 70's "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" I always thought the chorus was " I'm not talking about millennium" instead of "I'm not talking about moving in". Did not know the correct lyrics for years. Most songs I never know the words but love the beat or chorus and love listening. Now, while I still love country, especially older country, I find myself listening to 70"s and 80"s top 40 from my younger days.

Hi April, thanks for putting this video out there. You articulate very well what many of us with hearing loss go through on a daily basis. As for music, I echo the sentiment of many other commenters here in regards to listening with or without hearing aids. As a musician who has worn heaing aids since 2007, my personal preference is, unless I'm driving, to enjoy music without hearing aids. The reason is that hearing aids sometimes do not capture the full spectrum of frequencies in music. At home I listen through good quality over-the-ear headphones or high quality earbuds during recording sessions or if I want to simply enjoy the full sound of music through the phone, laptop or TV.

@@kaylasmusic Thanks for the info! After posting the comment above, I ended up purchasing a newer model of Phonak hearing aids (Audeo Lumity), which have Bluetooth LE on board. Music through these are very much improved over older models.

That's interesting. When i started losing my hearing I just kind of stopped listening to music because it just didn't sound good. Now, when I do listen to music, it's all pretty old stuff, I'm not sure if I don't like the newer music because I don't understand the lyrics or because I just don't like it! :)

Hi, I have been diagnosed with hearing loss and have been wearing hearing aids since June of this year. As a musician, listening to music through the microphones on my hearing aids using the program my audiologist made for me is my new normal, unless I’m streaming directly into my hearing aids from my phone or TV. It has been really hard for me to play my guitar, listen to music, or listen to others, playing music for me on their phone. I haven’t seen any live music except for one time in over three years. that one time the background noise was so much that I had a hard time enjoying myself listening to the performers and they didn’t have a loop system. The interesting thing for me is, I can listen to music that I own before I had hearing aids and it doesn’t sound the same so I’ve tried to listen to it without them like on my stereo and what I’ve lost I have to adjust the equalizer to make up for what I’ve lost over the years. Thank you for your videos! G

Which manufacturer do you have?? Widex is best for musicians

@@kaylasmusicwhy do you say that specially? I have Oticon Real One’s which are great while I am streaming music and my acoustic guitar sounds good but different using my Music program. My problem still is the brain retraining of hearing loud sounds vs softer sounds which I am currently working on with my audiologist.

@@gerardweber3733 Ok, awesome!! Oticon is also a good choice for musicians as wel!, but I've always heard Widex still tends to be number one as a first resort for musicians for the most part ive always been told,. I have Widex and they are amazing!, I have no issues with them at all so after sticking to widex, I have never tried oticon so I cant really compare, but some people seem to also do well with Oticon also as an option.. but I have always heard most people have the ,most success with Widex,..

I can only listen to things like Glenn miller or any sort of big band jive. i dance lindy hop with my wife and found it very very difficult to follow the tune until i got my aids. Much better at getting the beat to dance. My wife no longer has to sign to me what tune is playing. I dont really cope with tunes that are modern as i dont have a clue what the words are most of the time.

Does it sound distorted with your hearing aids?

Not distorted I just struggle to understand the lyrics and some instruments make my hearing aids ring

@@hardtohearit Damn that’s weird,.. is it with certain frequencies?, as a musician, i need a device that music is perfect on, so I use Widex because its meant for musicians.. Starkey is very much not meant for musicians at all,.. I have absolute pitch apparently so i can vouch for that

@@hardtohearit I doubt you can get the same results with Starkey as with Widex, but do you have a separate music setting?, maybe that can help? I mean when i become an audiologist, or if i were an audiologist now,. I’d recommend Widex as a first resort for musicians
