Who had the idea to recommend only artists instead of songs? :)) if you wanna feel the Romanian music it should have been recommended only the epic songs. I have some in mind. 1. Fun fact about romanian music - It's actually very popular all around Europe and even around the world. :) Inna, for example, is the most popular romanian singer ever. She has broken records 10 years ago with her single Hot, that charted #1 in the US and UK as well. Then she released Sun is up - a bop, 10 Minutes - a bop, Deja Vu, - a bop. She is the most streamed artist in Europe (outside of the UK) surpassing singers like Jessie J. Her KZbin channel is close to hitting 7 million subscribers and is also coming close to hitting 4 billion views. Her most viewed song is Yalla - 418 million views. She has collabed with famous artists such as Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Sean Paul, Alok, etc. She also had a few sold out tours all around the world. Alexandra Stan - has topped all world charts with Mr. Saxobeat (I'm 100% you know this song) that charted #1 in most parts of the world, including the UK and the US (first dance song to top the Billboard dance chart for 6 weeks in a row). Mr. Saxobeat is close to reaching 1 billion views with all uploads on official music channels on youtube and is the most streamed european song on Spotify. Alexandra was the peak of romanian dance music and the only artist that has reached worldwide fame with one single worldwide hit, being even more known around the world than Inna. The 2 are considered as queens of dance music. Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina - same story as Alexandra Stan - topped world charts with their song - Stereo Love. I'm sure you've heard about them as well! :) Fly Project - also very well known abroad for hits like Toca Toca (163 million views) Get Wet (75 million views) Musica (70 million views) and the list goes on. :) Minelli - our most recent international breaktrough with her song Rampampam - grew to be very famous in Europe and Rusia, with 140 million views on youtube over 9 months. Hope not to have bored you and I wish you enjoy listening to romanian music from now on! Happy holidays!

OK, so what you've listened to after Andra is from a genre called "manele", which is heavily inspired from everything South-Asian and most of the singers of this genre are of Rromi nationality - it's not a genre of music most of us Romanians are proud of, but one cannot deny its popularity. Pop and rock are the main genres we post 89 generation listen to. You don't have to hide the cringe from the early 2000s songs :D Inna is one of the most popular artists nowadays and she has international fame, due to the fact that the lyrics are in either Spanish or English. One band you should try listening to when it comes to rock is Voltaj. They're one of the most enduring and energetic bands ever. "20 de ani" is their most iconic song. Also, you should absolutely listen to Vama's "Am doar 18 ani" - it's the staple song that everyone listens to during their "coming of age" party when they turn 18. Enjoy! :)

Try reacting/listening to 3-4 tracks in a video, no more. And listen to at least 30-60% of the songs because the intro part is usually the slowest and you will hardly get a proper experience. Today the Romanian music is split into couple of categories, with the most popular in the top: RoPop - modern, electro, pop-dance with a bit of hip-hop or latino mixed. Best and biggest artist : Inna, Delia, Antonia, Ruby, Carla's Dreams, Jo, and many many more. Just start with any of these and look for playlists to hear more. Mixed with the RoPop are a quite a few "romanian easy music", slower music, often with sad love themes, tango, blues and not only, all of them featuring great vocals. These are quite popular and they are a throwback to the type of music we had during communism. You will find similar music in Russia, China or even Japan. Hip-Hop and Rap - commercial to underground. Best bands/artists: BUG Mafia, Parazitii, Puya, ConectR. Often mixed with RoPop. Popular-Ethnic - a very traditional, folk type music with lots of regional variations. You will instantly recognize it by the popular costumes and the popular instruments. This music can vary from very old songs (super good) to more modern ones just as good. There are a ton of singers and bands, popular bands and singers are Plaiesii, Palade, Sofia Vicoveanca and many more. Some RoPop singers are singing popular-ethnic songs, like Andra or even INNA. Manele - the arabic, indian, turkik influenced gypsy based music. This is not quite a "Romanian" type of music, but is here, is in Romanian, and is quite popular. Most popular singers: Salam, Guta, Jador, Juve. Take note that this style of music is highly "controversial" and you will get a ton of flak as many consider it to be a very low quality low effort music. Fusion - Some of the popular music elements are present in other genres as "fusion" elements. For example Subcarpati is one of the most popular ethno-fusion band today. Phoenix used to be another hyper-popular fusion rock-ethno band way back during communism. We used to have a vibrant Rock and Metal scene, especially during and after the communism. Sadly Rock is no longer popular and was replaced by Ro-Pop and Hip Hop. And of course we have a ton of old songs, from the communist era. Folk, ethno, rock, pop, fusion, all of them quite good for the time.

The lyrics of the songs I loved throughout the years helped me to learn, practice and improve the foreign languages I fluently speak. Like everybody, I love and hate songs, artists or bands. It is a matter of taste! But if you like a song, listen to it as much as you can, look for the lyrics, understand those words and practice as much as you can! It is way better than sitting in a class with a professor, isn't it? Always, have fun! Take care!
